Updates From the Field 3/11: $3.42 Money Maker

by Christie Bisbee on March 11, 2012

Here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go a little smoother!

RIGHT GUARD TOTAL DEFENSE: I was VERY excited to find Right Guard Total Defense deodorant on clearance for $2.29 AND ringing up B1G1 FREE! PLUS I got my $4 Register Reward. SWEET! I didn’t buy the Body Wash this time because my clearance Body Wash (although priced at $2.29 each) was not ringing up B1G1 FREE for whatever reason, so I choose to go with the deodorant. If you find the same at your store here are some deal ideas…

***DEAL IDEA IF YOU HAVE THE $3/2***
Buy (4) Right Guard Total Defense Deodorant $2.29 B1G1 FREE
Total = $4.58
-$3/2 Right Guard Printable (no longer available)
-$1/2 Right Guard Printable (still available yay!)
Total = $.58, Get Back $4 RR
= $3.42 MONEY MAKER!

***DEAL IDEA WITHOUT***
Buy (4) Right Guard Total Defense Deodorant $2.29 B1G1 FREE
Total = $4.58
(2) -$1/2 Right Guard Printable (still available yay!)
Total = $2.58, Get Back $4 RR
= $1.42 MONEY MAKER!

COKE DEAL: WOO HOO! I am so excited to see that my store was SERIOUSLY stocked up on Coke products! They were happy to let me buy (6) in one transaction.

I had a hangtag manufacturer’s coupon for $1/2 Diet Coke products, so I was able to get them for $1.17 each. You can grab them for as low as $1.66 with no coupons! 🙂

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (6) Coke or Diet Coke 12pk 3/$10
Total = $20, Get Back $10 Register Reward
= $1.66 EACH

ONE A DAY: Only the One A Day that are 200ct were working for me for the $4 off. These are normally $16.99, so $12.99 after the $4 discount. That makes them about $9.99 after the $2/1 One A Day Product (SS 01/01/12 #2) and the $1/1 One A Day Item Walgreens Coupon. There’s also a $1/1 HERE.

Next week 3/18 we have B1G1 50% OFF select One A Day, so I’ll wait for next week to see if the smaller products are included and pass on this deal this week.

What great deals did you find? How did your shop go? Let us know! 🙂

I was pretty frustrated, first because my store said limit 3 coke products so I purchased the candy and the peanuts for a total of $23 (minus a candy coupon and a peanut coupon totally $1.50)… BUT because I used some of my rewards from last weeks couponing, they only gave me $5 and not the $10 I felt that I should have received… sometimes walgreens coupon policy stinks

This happened to me too. But the manager fixed it. He said it was because I used a $10RR to pay. I didn’t think that would happen if the product was different, but apparently it does.

I bought $21 in nuts and used $17 in coupons and RR from colgate & right guard — .50 oop and recieved the $10 RR with no problem.

My store had the Right Guard Body Wash on clearance so I was excited. However, it wasn’t as great a deal as I thought it would be. The clearance price was 2.59 each. I was charged 2.59 for one and 1.90 for the second one. I did use a $3/2 coupon. When I looked at the ad it read “Buy one at 4.49 get one free”. 2.59 and 1.90 add up to 4.49 so that’s how it was done which technically is correct when you compare it to the ad.

Same at my store – so I stuck to the deodorants instead, kind of strange and not what I expected but same for me .

Reply

Sarah March 12, 2012 at 12:49 pm

The same exact thing happened to me yesterday with the clearance prices, then adding up to total $4.49.

I was thrilled to see the right guard on clearance at my store. These won’t be on the shelf for long. Even without a q you are still getting a really great deal on these! Great day for coke and planters products!

The manager at my store saw my deal and went and set aside 4 deodorants (he didn’t have any coupons) but he thought it was such a great deal, even he couldn’t resist! 😉

no clearance at my store 🙁

Reply

dropofrain March 11, 2012 at 5:22 pm

no clearance at my store either. Plus they had only ONE body wash bottle available in the store, and that’s what I really wanted. In addition, they didnt run B1G1 free but rather “get two for $4.49”.

Christie – I’m curious if Coupon Network lists Walgreens (for you) for the Right Guard body wash catalina. For me, it only lists my local grocery stores. I know it may still be active here, and I might still try it.

Reply

Pat March 11, 2012 at 5:57 pm

Where on couponNetwork can you find the catalina deal?

Reply

Valencia March 11, 2012 at 6:32 pm

On Coupon Network, I didn’t sign in at all. Just had it list all stores and Walgreen’s was not listed at all. I just tried the deal anyway and it worked.

Reply

Christie March 11, 2012 at 6:48 pm

No it did not but there’s an ad for it printing at Walgreens from the Catalina machine, which is why I tried it a couple of weeks ago and it worked. 🙂

I did this deal this morning, and ran it through two times, but only received a $2 RR 🙁

Reply

Ashley March 11, 2012 at 6:00 pm

My store had the body wash on clearance a week or two ago (I got 4 then), but it wasn’t on clearance this time around, and neither was the deodorant.

Your store is awesome for having so much Coke!!! My stores never stock up on sale items so they don’t make it past Sunday morning. I bought 6 diet cokes….and I felt bad because after I’d taken mine, there were only like 10 left.

Reply

shannyn March 11, 2012 at 6:09 pm

I wouldn’t feel to bad. They get restocked all week and half the time they have more in the back. It just depends on how much shelf area they have. I have asked them multiple times if they have more of something in the back and over half the time they do. Or I’ve always been allowed to do a rain check. Even on rr items. I just pay for it today so I can get my rr deal and pick it up when they re-stock. I’m thankful my Walgreens is more than accommodating in helping me get my deals.

Reply

Ashley March 11, 2012 at 8:11 pm

I really didn’t feel TOO bad considering all the Coke Zero and Right Guard had already been wiped clean. This particular store doesn’t restock deals during the week. The shelves stay empty until the sale is over early Sunday morning, THEN they restock. It’s pretty obvious that they don’t want too many good deals going out their door. Lucky for me there is another store 10 minutes away that is more coupon friendly and more prepared 🙂

Reply

Guest March 11, 2012 at 10:44 pm

@Ashley I’m sorry but it really bugs me when someone claims a Walgreens is hiding their stock in the back or w/e until Sunday morning! Lots of factors go into when and what is being stocked. Most Walgreens, if not all, have one day a week where a truck delivers the products – this changes after every holiday and stores cant pick and choose when to receive it. Next, if they happen to be short handed that stock may not be put up for a few days. Soda can vary as well if the vendor doesn’t choose to stock his or her own soda, leaving it to store employees. Often times overstock soda is kept in the back because of limited shelf space, so make sure to ask. To conclude, the “they don’t want deals leaving their door statement” is so not true. Why would a store not want sales? -_-

Reply

Lissette March 12, 2012 at 10:02 am

Actually, I have had a Walgreen’s employee say “we are not restocking that product” when I asked if they had anymore in the back storage. So yes, it is true for at least that store I went to. It doesn’t make any sense because they get reimbursed for it anyway, but whatever. I didn’t feel like arguing over the product, so i just went to the next store where I managed to get the last 2 of that product.

Reply

Ashley March 12, 2012 at 10:07 am

Thank you! It’s nice to hear I’m not alone with this problem, I know I’m not nuts :p

Reply

Ashley March 12, 2012 at 10:04 am

Sorry, didn’t want to annoy you! I know it doesn’t make sense, and 99% of stores wouldn’t do this, but there is a store in my area that DOES. I’ve even overheard employees trying to convince the manager to order extra stuff. And I always hear customers complaining about how this store is notorious for not having sale items. I think that they consider these sales a hassle.
So, again, sorry to bug you, but it’s just a given fact that this store doesn’t lilke to stock sale items and I’m not just making up a complaint!

Reply

Chel March 16, 2012 at 10:12 pm

it does happen!!! the store in my area is usually pretty good… one night i went & the “assistant manager” as he liked to call himself, actually known as the “team lead” informed me that if a “sale product” does not have a “space” it will not be restocked or ever brought back in… when i went to get another item that was out of stock, which had a shelf space, he then said that the store did not receive the shipment for this product… which was BS cause i purchased it sunday morning… when i asked about a “rain check” he then told me that they dont issue it on advertised sales & temporary price reduction items, only on regular priced items… i was totally PO by this, but it was my first time requesting a rain check.
i returned to the store the next day and spoke with the manager, i explained what happened & he apologized for the inconsistant information i received. he said im one of the few “best couponers” they encounter & appreciate my business & loyalty to their store, and is willing to assist me personally if hes in & also referred me to another gal if hes not. =D
The kicker is the EXECUTIVE manager (head honcho) was in that day and heard my conversation. Upon leaving he asked to speak with me about what he over heard. i explained it to him, and told him that im willing to “travel” to save but i come here because of the friendly customer service i receive EVERYTIME. & that i was considering driving 30 mintues to the next location because of this situation as i felt “stupid” & be-littled. but that this location is by far the most helpful & i dont want to go elsewhere. long story short, he asked me which employee i felt extended the best service & i told him. he apologized about the situation & told me if i encounter this again to shoot him an email. he then gave me a $20 Walgreens Gift Card for my feedback!… & i found out the gal i said was “the best” got one too!!!
i havent encountered any “bad experiences” at my location since… but IT DOES HAPPEN!!!

Hi Shannyn!
Thanks for your post! Can I ask a question?! What state do you live in; my store is terrible! All my family and friends out west get the deals when everyone “posts” them; but my store is so difficult; that it is so frustrating! I always spend more money than what the “posts” say and it is frustrating. When I am out west, I love going to Walgreens; but not the walgreens here in Maryland near where I live. There are 2 managers, the one is great and is so easy to talk to and understands the deals for that week; the other manager is nice but does not understand the deals. This sounds really bad; but I will only shop there when certain cashiers are there and the one manager is there because they are so nice and understand the deals!!

Can anyone confirm if you buy 4 Body Washes you get the 4 RR?

Reply

Deborah March 11, 2012 at 6:24 pm

Yes, I did it twice today.

Reply

Heather L. March 11, 2012 at 7:08 pm

I did the deal twice. Ended up with 8 body washes for my husband and 2 $4RR for future transactions.

Reply

Emily V March 11, 2012 at 6:21 pm

I bought 2 Right Guard body washes and didn’t realize one was $4.49 and the other was clearance priced at $2.29 (it did not ring up as a free item). I then got 2 Right Guard deoderants B1G1F for $4.49 even though there were several clearance ones available. I was afraid the deal wouldn’t work on the clearance deoderants; though I see now that it would have! I’m frustrated that the transaction didn’t work out properly and I could have gotten more for my money.

Did anyone have issues buying 6 Coke products to do the RR deal even though the ad states a limit of 3?

Reply

Sarah March 11, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Bought 6 at two different stores. The only problem you will have is if the cashier stops you (if they care really). The only product I found that they tightly stick to limits is milk when it is cheap.

Reply

Natasha March 11, 2012 at 6:42 pm

Thanks Sarah, great to know! I figured the system might just automatically stop calculating the sale price once you reach over the limit. That’s interesting it’s just up to the discretion of the cashier.

Good thing I made friends with one at Walgreens a couple of weeks ago! 😉

Toni March 11, 2012 at 8:08 pm

My store let me buy 6 12-packs, but since I had $1/1 coupons, it did not kick out a catalina. I talked to the mgr and she allowed me to buy $6 worth of candy, then re-rang the order so the total was over $20. Then the $10 catalina kicked out! (She explained that the coupons brought my $20 total down to $14, that’s why the cat didn’t print) She’s great!

Reply

Wendy March 12, 2012 at 1:37 am

I was worried about not being able to get 6 but the manager walked by me as I was loading up my cart said Coke products are $6 for $20 and you get a $10 RR. That made me very happy! 🙂 It worked for me. I got my $10 RR.

Reply

kim March 12, 2012 at 9:02 am

I bought the 3 12pks and received a $5RR, so if you have to stick to the limit, you will still receive the same RR’s whether you buy 3 or 6.

Reply

dave March 12, 2012 at 1:35 pm

our wags says $5 RR when you spend $15 – was your 3 12 packs the sale price?

Reply

kim March 12, 2012 at 5:24 pm

No, it had the same tags…it said $5RR when you spend $15 and $10RR/$20 but they rang up $3.33 each.

Jennifer March 11, 2012 at 10:23 pm

I was at 2 different walgreens today and both of them had middle aisle sections full of coke products. On all 4 sides of the coke display both stores had buy 6 coke products $20 get $10 rr. I don’t think most of the stores are going to stick to the 3 limit.

Reply

Deanna Gomez March 11, 2012 at 6:32 pm

If you use coupons for the coke or planters products, does your total have to be $20 BEFORE or AFTER the coupons to get the RR to print?

I purchase 6 planters nuts at $21.00 minus (3) $1.50/2 any planters nuts q which put my overall total under $20.00 and I still received my $10.00 rr. So overall I got mixed nuts and cashews for $1.09 each. Super stock-up price!

Went to my store this morning. The body wash did not print the 4 RR. The deoderants did. The manger on call this morning gave me a hard time about the RR. She said she could do nothing about it but give me a form to mail. I waited 20 mintues- she did not come back. I am always the nice one at the store but that was pushing it. Told my cashier that I was going to Publix across the street and would come back. 20 mintues later I came back and she had NOT printed me a form to mail in. When I asked for the form again she went to go to the back. I asked her if she would please not take 20 mintues again She said the only reason it took so long was because she had to call her friend to ask about the right guard deal. I think I have had about enough. I went and got 4 deoderants while she was gone and made her ring me up when she got back. The 4RR printed. She was just determined not to be helpful. I don’t know if I will just return the items or what. This makes you not want to shop at their stores.

Maggie March 11, 2012 at 7:30 pm

Well a few things come to mind. One is it has to be Total Defense 5. Not just any Right Guard will work for the deal. So if you buy something that is NOT Total Defense you aren’t going to get the RR.

It’s possible that one variety was left off of the RR deal – so if you didn’t get the RR please tell us what exactly you bought.

Reply

Cris March 12, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Today i bought 4 total defense 5 body washes at 4.49 bogo and did not get the RR. I was in such a hurry (still waited to see if it would print) that I din’t return it at that point. I might just keep it since it’s only a little over $3 OOP but I am just so used to get body wash for free…

Reply

Amanda M March 11, 2012 at 7:42 pm

Went to my wags today and the cashier told me that I could buy the clearance one and still get bogo because on the ad says you must purchase one a t 4.49 get free.. oh well still free deodorant 🙂

It is so strange how all of the Walgreens are different. My deodorant wasn’t on clearance, but it did ring up bogo. My body wash WAS on clearance but did NOT ring up bogo. I bought 2 body washes and 2 deodorants in 1 transaction and I got $4 RR. I wish all of the stores were the same so we could actually know ahead of time what is going to happen!

Reply

Brenda March 12, 2012 at 2:51 am

It is funny! I bought body wash that wasn’t on clearance and it rang up with the BOGO, but the deodorant that I got on clearance did not ring up BOGO. How weird! Oh, and I did get 2- $4RR.

Reply

Even weirder, all I bought was clearanced deodorant and it all rang up BOGO! My store had the new registers, so I don’t know if that plays into it at all!

Might stock up some more, as this is a great sale. I’ll have plenty of room in the garage after I make our spring break non-perishable donation on Wednesday for our middle school.

I went to one Walgreens and bought 6 twelve packs and used rr from last week and got the 10 rr back no problem…then went to another store in the same town and bought six more twelve packs and used rr also and only got 5 rr back. The manager was so nasty to me and also to the cashier that was working. I actually left the store in tears, I actually was so upset I called cooperate on him as soon as I got home. I always have trouble at the one paticular Walgreens…I will probably never step foot back in that one!!! I never have trouble at CVS, why is Walgreens so difficult???

Jodi,

What was your total on the first transaction and the second transaction? Please let us know

Reply

Lin March 12, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Jodi,

I suspect that you had other items on the first transaction that made the subtotal over $20 AFTER the RR was used and your second transaction was probably only coke and when you used the RR it brought the subtotal to $15-$19.99. With the Coke, the $5 RR spits out when your subtotal is that. When you are above $20, then the $10 RR spits out.

I can tell you from personal experience that your Coke deal (almost sounds sinister) has to be above $20 to get the RR. I bought several items along with Coca Cola on my Coke transaction, used several RRs which brought my subtotal to less than $6, and did not get the Coke $10 RR or $5 RR Coke. They voided the transaction, rang the cokes separately and I did not use any coupons nor any RR and the subtotal was $20 and a $10 RR spit out.

I am sure these type of RR deals that requires a certain subtotal to initiate a RR instead of the regular RR that are generated regardless of the subtotal have a name.

Brenda March 13, 2012 at 7:16 am

Hmmm…that’s interesting Lin.
I purchased 6 12pks. today, used $8 in RR, only paid $13.64 out of pocket and the $10 RR printed for me. It’s so odd how each store is different. Sure makes it difficult to figure out sometimes!
Jodi,
Sorry you had such a difficult time, I’ve had them too. It’s nice that there is so many stores, so we can choose which one works the best for us.

Christie

Did you hear about the $2.50 RR when you buy $9 of Glad bags. I wasn’t sure if it is like the Coke deal where the total has to be over $9 for the whole transaction. I bought two on sale $7.49 each and used 2 $2.00/1 coupons AND bought the Right Guard 5 deo and used a $10 RR to bring final price to $5 and change, but it did not print.

Hi Christie,
Could you give me the corporate number/info. for Walgreens. I went to 2 diff. stores and couldn’t buy anything at either one. The first store the body washes were already gone and the sec. store wouldn’t let me buy four to get the register reward because they had a limit that you could only do one trans. when it’s buy one get one free. So they wouldn’t let me get four. No wonder there store had like 12 or more still on the shelf yet the store 1 mile away had mothing left.
Thanks Sherrie

The only thing I had trouble with was tums because the new ones weren’t in the system. But the sign on shelf had sale price so the wonderful manager at my store in corinth, ms got it taken care of for me. Right guard had no problem with non-clearance body wash or clearance deo. And coke went fine just rang it up separate. And used coke re to get 6 of the purex pacs. All in all I got 6 body wash 6 deo 6 coke products and 6 purex 2 sally lip products 2 twin packs of tums and clearance breathe right strips for 25 cent fillers. Oh and the orajel kids toothpaste. My store was stocked and ready for me!

No body wash for me. Went in early Sunday morning to get the deals, but none to be found. A nice clerk looked in back. we both thought it was odd that we could not even find a shelf label where it should have been. I do have to go back, I was overcharged on a clearence item by $1.49. My Bayer ended up being .99 for 2. Price was 2.99, then -$1.00 wags coupon, then the 50% off was on $1.99 price Not the original price.

Hello Christie:
I bought the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula with vit E “Lip Butter” for $1.99 with -$2 Q’s a couponer (“couponers unite” I also gave her .75 Q for the Irish Spring shower gel) I met at the store gave me. I came home to look for those Q but they are not the same. I printed a -$2 Q that says Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula with vit E “Facial Product”. The only restriction it has is on trial sizes and the Swivel Stick. My question is, can I use this Q to buy the lip butter?
Thanks for all your hard work to keep us inform on these deals and your answer on this matter…

The wags here in Hawaii not so lucky. For the bogo Right guard sale there’s no RR, wasn’t on clearance and priced at 4.99 🙁
