Updates From the Field 1/8!

by Christie Bisbee on January 8, 2012

Today was a long day with a good part of it spent taking down the Christmas lights. I’d been putting it off but I thought my neighbors were starting to look at me funny so I decided we better get it done. 😉

Here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go smoother!

EOS LOTION: Ok I couldn’t find this to save my life. I looked everywhere, I looked at a second store, no luck. Finally I decided to try a 3rd busier store and found them on the cosmetics counter. How exactly that box in the picture represents the actual product is beyond me.

So, if you are looking for the hand lotion, it’s a small disk, like in the picture and it’s NOT a 6pk! It’s just a 1.5oz disk. It didn’t even come in a box, it has the upc code on the back on a sticker. My guess is that is a picture of the 6pk box these are shipped to the store in. Each one is individually labeled to be sold individually. At least I figured it out eventually.

CHEX MIX: The Chex Mix deal worked perfectly for me PLUS when I had them ring up a 5th bag it rang up for $1.50, even though the first (3) rang up for $1.99. And the Walgreens coupon in the January Book took off for the 5th bag. So you may want to check how the 5th bag rings up at your store.

PROBLEMS WITH COUPONS SCANNING: I know some of you are having issues with the newer one bar coupons scanning properly at your store. If you are having this issue, ask them to enter the coupon manually, let them know that ALL coupons are going to be moving to the one bar code eventually. I’d also call corporate and let them know that you are having issues and want a call back from a manager or district manager.

SYNTHA 6 MEAL REPLACEMENT BAR: So, if any of your transactions went a little crazy it might be because the Syntha-6 Meal Replacement Bar 1.59 oz. priced at $1.89 is printing a Register Reward for $2 NOT for $1.89 or $1.90. That’s great – it’s a little money make right off the bat, but it can throw off your scenario, so keep that in mind.

What other deals did you find? How did your shop go? Let us know!

Goodness, I had such a time trying to locate the EOS as well! I finally gave up and went with two of the shave creams instead. I also had loads of trouble with the Reach Floss printable. My cashier couldn’t get it to scan; finally a manager was called and he took it off manually. Whew!

My wags had a lil note saying it was a misprint it’s not a 6 pack they are sold individually:)

I had such a great day today! Thanks for your posts. My Reach coupons would not scan or enter manually, but my cashier handled it well and the manager took the amount off anyways. (not sure what happened) I found the pack of EOS lotion next to the shaving cream, but went with the shaving cream because it said you could use it wet or dry.

At my store I found the cans of Old Spice body spray on clearance for $2.79, I used the $2 coupon to snag it for $0.79!!!

Tara January 8, 2012 at 8:50 pm

I actually got a $2 RR from General Mills for the Chex Mix as well! Paid $2.60 for 4 bags, then with the $2 RR it’s like paying $.60 for 4 bags!!!

Had a bunch of $2 RRs from last week’s protein bar… used those on the Syntha 6 bars combined with some discounted Christmas chocolate that rang up for $.12, so did a number of 1c transactions :).

Jaymi so you did the find the 6pk of eos ? or just the individual lotions ?

Katherine January 8, 2012 at 9:05 pm

I bought 5 Chex Mix. Rang in at $1.99, $1.99, $1.99, $0.03, and $1.50. Used four $0.60/1 printables and one $0.50/1 chocolate (GM insert, plus the $1/4 Walgreens coupon = paid $3.85 with tax and got $3RR.

I had a problem with the Reach floss coupon. It would not scan or work when punched in. The management wouldn’t allow me to use it at all.

Reply

Jana January 8, 2012 at 11:45 pm

same here but my store actually pushed it through, I was shocked. Usually all the wags around me – if the coupon doesn’t scan they look at it, try to scan it again then hand it back to me with a simple “it won’t take it”

Lisa January 9, 2012 at 12:12 pm

The manager told me they were counterfeit because they would not scan or go in manually and because it only had one line of numbers. She actually said that hackers can go into Smart Source and place fraudulent coupons that we couponers then print and try to use!! Ugh! Today I printed the Coupons dot com coupons and they wouldn’t scan or go in manually, but the store I went to today pushed them through. A lot of effort to get free floss!

Rrr–at 99 cents for one, the EOS hand lotion just became an expensive purchase. Too bad, it was the only deal I wanted this week. Not a fan of Chex mix and prefer to shave with shower gel…oh well. But next weeks Stayfree deal is exciting!

FYI: The only Prevacid that will work for the “Buy $20 worth and get $10RR back” deal is the 28ct. (pictured). My store was out of the 28ct. so we tried two 14ct., which came to $24, and it didn’t print the RR.

Also, the Tylenol Precise appears to be spitting out a $2 Walgreens coupon for 2ct.+ Thermacare. Nice one to tuck in the Binder. 🙂

I bought 5 chex mix’s today and my 5th one rang up as $1.50 and the Wags coupon took off $1.25. I used two .50/2 coupons and one .60/1. 🙂

I bought a combination of Nice! and W brand stuff for $10.xx, and ran my AARP card through and used a $5 RR. Got BOTH the $2 rr and the $3 rr! (I couldn’t remember if the AARP deals were before or after RRs.) Now I know. Whee! $5.xx oop, $5 in RR, and 3 boxes of dried cranberries, 150 sandwich bags, freezer quart bags, and dishwasher detergent. Thanks for all you do!

I did three transactions for the chex mix and on the last transaction I did not get my register reward. The clerk said I had used too many internet coupons. I didn’t know that made a difference.

Reply

Christie January 8, 2012 at 11:37 pm

Lori – that’s not true. It shouldn’t have made a difference! Maybe they ran out of ink or paper or the machine got jammed or one item wasn’t coded properly. Your coupons had nothing to do with it.

All I wanted was the kids fish oil vitamins (FREE after RR). I went early in the morning today to Wags and had a stock guy and the manager help me but it could not be found. Not even a shelf space! Anyone else have problems finding these?

Reply

ashley January 9, 2012 at 12:11 am

I ran into the same problem!!! I was there right when they opened and the vitamins where no where to be found!!! But the manager took off 10.00 for all the transactions I was planning to use the 10.00 RR from the fish oil (Yippee!). Thats why I love shopping at walgreens!!

Lenore January 9, 2012 at 1:42 am

I just left Walgreens and in my area they didn’t have a spot for these, however I went to the vitamin area and where they have the kids vitamins on the very top shelf I noticed the kids fish oil RR $10 deal the were marked hot deal at $14.99, I got one down compared it and it was exactly what was in the ad. Had the girl ring it up and it was in the system for $10 and I did get my RR.

Valencia January 9, 2012 at 7:05 am

Same problem here, no shelf space or markings. I just happened to be looking up and saw them sitting on top of a shelf, pushed back, kinda like someone was supposed to come out and arrange them later.

Reply

Melody in DE January 9, 2012 at 8:29 am

Same here, I couldn’t find it anywhere. Now why would they put it in the ad if it’s not on stock? They looked in the back fore but couldn’t find it. Was tild to come back on tues or wed. I’m bummed!

Reply

Angel January 9, 2012 at 2:54 pm

There were no where to be found at my store either. I asked the cashier and low and behold they were sitting on the floor at the cosmetics counter!

Reply

Tasha January 12, 2012 at 5:46 pm

At my store, they are not a normal item we carry, only for this ad. They came in a displayer and we placed them on an endstand with other vitamins. The manager should have ordered some.

As far as the Eos, that was an ad misprint and all stores are supposed to have a sign up. Sorry.

Reply

Mila January 9, 2012 at 1:07 am

My store also didn’t have a space for them on the shelf but I found them up by the registers (???) and another store had them in a box on the floor by the vitamins. Odd.

Suave women’s and men’s body wash are $2 each, if u buy 6 bottles at $12 you get $3 RR, then use 3 of the B1G1 free coupon from this past insert, it will deduct $6. So total will be $6 with 3 RR, it’s like paying 0.50 cents a body wash!

I live in a rural community with only 1 walgreens within 50 miles. I need to get there at opening on Sunday morning in order for them to have any merchandise left. Now the cashiers tell me that if they use a coupon incorrectly it comes out of their paycheck. I’m very frustrated since the coupon scanners they have don’t work well and I’m always holding up the line asking to try it manually or call the manager! UGH!

Reply

rashelle January 9, 2012 at 12:59 pm

this is not true. At least in the store i work for. Coupons do not come out of our paycheck if they are used wrong. We can be written up if we take expired ones, or we keep having missing coupons since they are just like cash but it doesn’t come out of our paycheck.
Also, all the stores went or are going to the new scanners which are dumb. They don’t scan coupons very well at all. Sometimes its just easier for me to type the numbers in.

Jen January 9, 2012 at 9:24 am

It really baffles me how differently Walgreens handle coupons at stuff – even when they’re less than 5 minutes apart. For example last week with the $10 KY coupon, the register was constanly saying “no items sold for this coupon.” At 1 store, the cashier looked at the coupon, looked at the item, made sure they matched, and put it in manually. At the other, the cashier had to call the manager, wait for the manager to get there while the line built up, the manager looked at coupon, looked at item, tried typing it in manually, and finally gave up and entered it manually. It’s like at some stores the cashiers have the authority to enter uncooperative coupons manually, while at others only the manager on duty does. I also had problems with the Reach printable coupon yesterday, and thankfully I was at the store where cashiers are trusted to enter the coupons manually so the line behind me didn’t pile up!

Reply

rashelle January 9, 2012 at 1:03 pm

You are probably right, some stores will allow the cashiers to enter coupons manually while others need a manager to approve it and it can even vary from cashier to cashier. At my store, we had a cashier that would just enter the coupon even if it was for the wrong product and so that cashier always had to call for approval for a few months. yes it can be time consuming but the store you went to may be dealing with something like that too.

Judy January 9, 2012 at 10:00 am

Since many internet coupons are now made with the newer barcodes that are SUPPOSED to prevent misuse of the coupon, many scanners don’r recognize them. Some stores will just manually enter after verifying it’s not expired and that the correct item was purchased, but others absolutely will not. And not just Walgrenns, but Walmart, Target, and many grocery stores. Since that Extreme Coupon show has been on, stores seem paranoind about fraudulent internet coupons. So the internet printables get more sophisticated barcodes to cut down on fraud, and then I get accused of using fraudulent coupons when I shop!! What next? Has anyone noticed coupons.com wants a mambership fee now if you want the highest value coupons??

For the childrens vitamin problem… it’s a non basic item so there will not be a place for it. Most of the time the RR items are new and sent on the truck in a display box. For some reason i found them last week in the prostate vitamin section when i was putting on clearance tags. I was like wtf!? But there was also a side rack full of them. So just check side racks, ends stands, and the section of extra shelfs ontop of each aisle called supers. (not sure if that terminology is used at all stores)

The Bic Soliel 4 pk razors had a $1 off peelie for any EOS product at my store (by San Antonio, TX). Free shaving cream after the RR :). On another note, the Bic BOGO coupon would not go through ~ she manually entered, but b/c the the way she said she had to take the deduction, my EOS RR could not be used (i did have a filler):(.

Tara, thank you so much for posting this! I went and checked the razors at my storeand they had the coupons, so I got some free shaving cream! I’m so pumped! Thanks!

My Reach coupon didn’t scan either, but I got the “nice” cashier and she pushed it through. Thanks for this update on the eos, I wanted to try it but I never in a million years would have found it. And I think their shaving gel is fine, but overpriced for what it is – the skintimate gets down to cheap or free fairly regularly and the eos shaving cream never goes lower than .99 cents (with deals and coupons.)

Loving this chex mix deal, there’s a bunch of coupons out (I was lucky enough to get 4 of the .50/1 in inserts I bought online) and it’s something all the stores seem to keep a lot of, so there’s been a large variety of flavors each time I’ve gone. Going to try to roll the Reach RR into another deal on that.

Jennifer January 9, 2012 at 3:27 pm

The cashier would not take either my .60/1 or .50/2 Chex coupons she said b/c it only had one barcode 🙁 I still bought them though,my boys love the stuff. I asked the manager for the kids fish vitamins. He and another guy looked in the back for me and found them! Yay!

Reply

Amanda January 10, 2012 at 11:41 am

Jennifer, did she even try scanning them? My cashier had no problems scanning my $0.60/1 printable coupons.

Amanda January 9, 2012 at 3:49 pm

I bought 5 Chex Mix. They rang in at $1.99, $1.99, $1.99, $0.03, and $1.50. I used five $0.60/1 printable coupons, plus the $1/4 Walgreens coupon, which actually took off $1.25. I paid $3.25 and got $3 RR. Total=5 cents a bag!!

Question on the Chex Mix… I went in and bought 4 bags, used 4 @ .60c and the $1/4 wags coupon. Paid the bill and instead of the $2 cat it printed the info about buy Chex Mix from 12/? – 1/? and get the cat. So I went back in and said I bought the right products in the right date times.. I should get a $2cat. The manager said, no that is to entice U to buy more.. U will get it next time, I said no, thats not how it works, U should get it now. Then she changed her reason to, no its because U used coupons on it, and the machine knows, so U need to buy 4 more bags to get it.. I argued with her for a bit, and she rang up 4 more bags to see if it worked, and sure enough out came the $2. But I still dont think that is right, she decided to give me the $2cat. But what do U think?????

Reply

Christie January 10, 2012 at 1:41 pm

No you should have gotten it. Just call Catalina network and ask for them to send you your register reward.

You can go to my post HERE to see how to do that.

I did find Ben Gay products are on sale. 4.99 with the mfr $2.00 cpn making these products 2.99 each. Great for those working off the holiday pounds!

So excited that my store had all that I wanted in stock.

Bought the Kids fish oil and used the $3 RR from the cereal deal last week. Total was $7.30 and got $10 RR.

Then used that $10 to get the Tylenol Precise heat patches, 5 bags of Chex Mix, the Syntha bar, and a box of Barbie valentines. Used the $3 Tylenol printable, 2 0.60/1, a 0.50/1, a 0.50/2, and the $1/4 Wags coupon for a grand total of $1.75. Plus got $8 more in RR.

Told my husband to ooh and aah for me since I’m fairly new to this. 🙂
