Updates From the Field 12/11

by Christie Bisbee on December 11, 2011

Here are some updates from my trip to help you with your shopping this week!

ADVIL CHILDREN’S DEAL: This deal is actually better than I anticipated! The Advil Children’s Register Reward we had a bit ago is actually a monthly deal that runs thru 12/31! When you combine that with the MQ, the Infant Care booklet coupon and the in ad coupon you can grab these for as low as .39¢ EACH!

If you have never stacked (2) Walgreens coupons before, yes it can be done. When purchasing a single item, Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item. Here’s what I did…

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Advil Children’s Liquid, 4 oz. ea. or Infants’ Drops .5 oz. ea.$6.99 EACH
Total = $13.98
(2) -$1.10/1 Advil Children’s Product, any  OR -$1.10/1 Advil Infants product, any
(1) -$2/1 Children’s or Infant’s Advil Suspension 0.5 or 4 oz (5520) Infant Care Book (-$4)
(1) – In ad Coupon for Children’s Advil (-$4)
Total = $3.78, Get Back $3 Register Reward
= .39¢ EACH!

JINGLE CASH UPDATE: I spent my $5 Jingle Cash in a transaction that totaled over $30 after Walgreens coupons but BEFORE manufacturer’s coupons and Jingle Cash and I did get another $5 Jingle Cash. I gave the cashier my Jingle Cash first. I only had one $5 Jingle Cash to spend so I wasn’t able to try it out at a second store to confirm but that’s how it worked for me today. If you used Jingle cash today, let us know what your experience was!

AVEENO GIFT SETS: If your store sells the Aveeno gift sets, you may want to do a price check. These were ringing up $9.99 B1G1 50% OFF for me. Aveeno products, as you know, are not cheap so that’s an awesome price for these! These will vary from store to store, but if you find them definitely do a price check! If you find any gift sets with the Active Naturals line you can use the – $3/2 Aveeno Active Naturals Products, any (ets & 2.5 oz sizes) – 10-30-11 SS x12/31 to get these for $5.99 EACH! (Thanks, James!)

GOODY HAIR PRODUCTS: Make sure your goody products are ringing up properly and printing the Register Reward. They weren’t ringing up correctly at my store even though they were the ones pictured, so just double check.

NEW PRINTABLE COUPONS FOR THE DEALS THIS WEEK:
-$1/2 Hershey’s Kisses 7.5oz+ on the Hershey’s Spanish site HERE
-$1/1 L’Oreal Paris skincare product
-$1/1 L’Oreal Paris eye product
-$1/1 L’Oreal Studio Line styling product

-$1/1 Ferrero Rocher or Ferrero Collection package 5.5oz or larger

Find any great deals? How did your shop go? Let us know!

The 5 dollar ThermaCare/ Advil coupon looks strange. Anyone have problems with it scanning?

Reply

AWalker7980 December 11, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Yes, Mine didn’t scan, but my cashier (which, if she is reading this, she is the best ever!!!) went ahead and pushed it through.

Christie, I also did the Children’s Advil deal. My cashier ever said she was going to get some as well!

Cheap Advil this week and cheap Triamenic last week works good for switching back and forth for the sick kiddos this time of year!!

Carmen Claypool December 11, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Mine didn’t ring up either, but I too have a wonderful cashier who pushed it through. I bought a lot of the nutcrackers, and since I didn’t need the lens solution, I got dishwasher detergent. I tried to figure it closely, and when I got through (including Jingle Cash and register rewards from last night) I only paid twenty cents for almost sixty dollars worth of products. It was AWESOME. I have another Jingle cash from last week to spend and I’m trying to figure out a deal….

I used the $5/2 Advil + Thermacare coupon and had trouble with it. I bought the right products for the RR deal, but the register just wouldn’t take it. Luckily the manager was right at the front register while the elderly lady that was there before was on a quick break, so he took care of everything for me.

I also went to a second Walgreens after the first one, and I had a cashier who was an elderly man who typed in every single coupon. It took him SO LONG to type them in when he could have just scanned them in seconds! I know it’s not related to a deal, but I just thought it was so weird (and time-consuming) that he would do that!

My cashier did that last week too! I thought it was odd too. And yes, very time consuming. I had to apologize multiple times to the people building up a line behind me & I ended up only doing one transaction & going to a different Walgreen’s cuz I didn’t want them to have to wait on me… or rather my 10-key happy cashier.

Where are you getting the $5 off Advil & Thermacare? The only one I can find is for a 20 ct or higher Advil product…

dluvsfreebies December 11, 2011 at 4:54 pm

had a purchase that was $30 BEFORE MQ. i also handed the cashier my jingle cash first, then the MQs and it went through fine .. also got another $5 jingle cash.

Red14blu22 December 11, 2011 at 5:10 pm

I did not get another jingle cash. I did have 1 wags coupon and that was scanned 1st followed by my jingle cash. Guess I should have done the jingle cash 1st.

Really sweet conair deal. Purchase the Conair extreme multi heat rollers (model # CHV26HX) originally priced at $42.00 on sale for $30.00. Use a $5.00 printable q that was available at http://www.coupons.com (I don’t think it is available anymore). Receive a $10.00 rr for the purchase of a $30.00 conair product and receive $5.00 in jingle cash for purchase of $30.00. To sweeten the deal go to http://www.conair.com to print a $5.00 rebate form for this product. Type in rebate in the search box. In the end you will get this $42.00 conair product for $5.00.

My Walgreens wasn’t sure if the Jingle Cash would roll but told me they thought if it did, the Jingle Cash would be considered a Walgreens q. Meaning it would have to be $35 using a $5 Jingle Cash to get the $5 one again. Anyone who got one back using their Jingle Cash… was your total less than $35 before you used it and got another one?

Where would I find this coupon?

(1) -$2/1 Children’s or Infant’s Advil Suspension 0.5 or 4 oz (5520) Infant Care Book (-$4)

Lisa December 11, 2011 at 6:01 pm

Infant Care Book. They were available in the stores quite a few months ago.

Reply

Heather December 11, 2011 at 6:49 pm

When you check out, just tell them you have the walgreens coupon code 5520. They will type it in and it was deduct the amount! I was skeptical at first to do this, but they have dont it and works everytime!

Reply

Dorian December 11, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Will they do this twice, for both items?

Reply

arcy December 11, 2011 at 9:15 pm

they dont need to scan it twice, it doubles automatically

June December 12, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I tried to use my infant care book and the code but my store said “coupon not on file”. I don’t know what it means, it’s a real coupon. So the manager shows up and only deduct $2 instead of $4 and only allow me using one $1.10 off coupon. He said the $2 in infant care was a MFG coupon. It’s not a too good day for me.

chris December 11, 2011 at 6:18 pm

My walgreens insisted that the Jingle Cash had to be used last after manufacturer and walgreen coupons, so I ended up having to add together my two purchases to get it OVER $30 after all coupons to use one of my two jingle cashes…I was not a happy camper after 30 minutes at the register and much more out of pocket that I expected…and still have a $5 jc left for this week. Oh well, maybe I’ll try another WAGS to see if it was just my store’s grumpy manager (who yelled at the cashier while I was there…so nice!).

Reply

melinda December 12, 2011 at 10:58 am

I had the same nightmare at my Walgreens. They wouldn’t take my jingle cash until all my manufacturer coupons were also entered and my total was above $30. It wasn’t my normal managers and beauty counter people. Terrible night shopping. . . I’m just going to go back later this week and return some of the items. . . UGH.

Maria December 11, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Chris, you should report that manager. I hate when they cant even be kind to their own employees

Reply

Heather December 11, 2011 at 6:48 pm

I did the Infant’s Advil this morning (priced at $6.49 at my store!) I got back a $3 RR but it just said ‘Thank you for your purchase” there wasnt anything about who it was from! If you get the infants, it makes it free! I think I will do this again since I now know it prints the $3 RR!

Mary December 11, 2011 at 7:41 pm

My $5 Advil coupon would not scan, the cashier called over the manager who said he would not take it, coupon looked weird to him so he was not taking it, My $10 jingle cash from last week would not scan or come off either, even though my transaction was $34 after walgreens instore deals and before manufacturers coupons- I had it down to $24 with my manufacturers coupons- the jingle cash would not scan- same manager came over and said it had to be $30 after coupons- I argued that it was not how the policy online or on the coupon stated- he still would not budge, I had enough register rewards to bring total down to a few dollars so I just did that, and get this I got a $5 jingle cash for next week on the transaction but they still would not admit that they should have taken the $10 jingle cash from last week I even asked if I should have had them scan the jingle cash first but he said that it would not have mattered and that if the manufacturers coupons made it drop below $30 the register would kick the jungle cash back out of the transaction. Not a happy camper here.

Reply

stacia December 11, 2011 at 8:02 pm

I wasn’t sure how the whole Jingle Cash thing would work, so I figured my 1st transaction to be $30 after all my manufacture and wags coupons. I then paid with my $10 Jingle Cash and $20ish cash. I did get another $5 in Jungle Cash for next week.

I’m confused about the Children’s Advil. I must be too tired to be working on coupons. lol Can someone explain this one to me? Thanks!!

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Advil Children’s Liquid, 4 oz. ea. or Infants’ Drops .5 oz. ea.$6.99 EACH
Total = $13.98

Reply

Jackie G December 12, 2011 at 1:36 am

I’m not sure what the confusion is, but sometimes I have to rewrite the scenarios so *I* can understand it.

Buy 2 Infants Advil = #13.98
Use (2) $1.10 Manufacturer’s coupons= -$2.20
Now your totals down to $11.78
Then, use $2 off coupon from the Infant Care book= -$4
Now, you’re down to $7.78
Use the in-ad coupon for the Advil ($2 off each) – $4
Now, you’re down to $3.78

That’s you’re out of pocket (not including tax)
You’ll get back $3 RR, so you will end up getting 2 for .78 or .34 each.

Does that make sense?

Is there an order I should give the cashier the coupons?

Reply

Marianne December 11, 2011 at 9:16 pm

I didn’t realize you have to give the jingle cash first, so my cashier had to void the transaction and do it again. But she was nice about it, and my total before the jingle cash was a little over 34.00; after the jingle cash and coupons, I paid only 2.87. I was happy!

One store I go to will not let me combine an in-ad Q with the infant care booklet Qs- anyone had this happened ?? where in their policy does it state that they can be combined?

Reply

Mary December 11, 2011 at 11:17 pm

For the children’s Advil deal, do you get a RR if you get the junior pills? I know I couldn’t use the Infant care coupon, so it wouldn’t be quite as good a deal, but my kids are older and prefer the pills, and it would be a pretty good price if I could use the in-ad Q and get a RR, too.

Where do I find that I receive a register rewards on the Infants Advil? I purchased them today and didn’t receive one. How do I prove one should have printed when it’s not in the current ad?

I have asked my store several times about the infant care booklets, and the diabetis booklet as well. No one has ever heard of them at my store. They say the only coupon booklet is the one that comes monthly! It drives me crazy when their employees dont even know what is going on. They think I am trying to get away with something when I tell them that other stores have these booklets. How can I get my store to be more aware what is available to them?

Reply

Karen A December 13, 2011 at 2:19 am

1) Pfizer coupons are almost always problematic- they usually never scan at Walgreens. Please contact Pfizer directly and complain about this- I have done so and was told “No one has ever complained about our coupons not working, at this retailer or any other.” I told them to call Walgreens and ask- because never has their coupons worked there! Even at Walmart they beep!

2) If your store does not carry the Infant Care book, and has never heard of it, call Walgreens CORPORATE and tell them the store you visited, store number, manager’s name. Let them know in a NICE manner you shop there weekly, but the book has never been available NOR do any of the employees know about it. Ask specifically if the district manager can be made aware of this, as you will have to go to Walmart to buy baby items if the store can not help you. You will be SO surprised how effective this is!!

3) Went to Wags myself today- got the AWESOME COnair heat rollers deal! It was $30, and I forgot to have the Jingle cash come out first -AOOPS! It was $25 after a coupon I used, and wouldn’t scan. Manager came over, didn’t know this himself, re-rang everything then did the JIngle Cash FIRST- because he read the WEBSITE that said $30 after WAGS sale/In store coupons were deducted- and it worked PERFECTLY the second time thru~ I remember this from last year- ALWAYS do your Jingle Cash first- and ladies and GENTS- simple habit to form,- hand your coupons ONE at a time, in the order you want them scanned. If the cashier thinks that is the only coupon, they will SCAN it!!!!!

Kelly December 12, 2011 at 8:36 am

Jingle Cash first otherwise coupons will bring your total down below $30. I had my Jingle Cash on top of my stack and the cashier purposely moved it aside and went to my others. Then when it beeped at the end she told me It wouldn’t work because I didn’t have enough items. I definitely did. I told her it was probably because she did Jingle Cash last. I had to buy extra items to get my total before tax over $30 to work but at that point I didn’t care, I wanted to get out of there because the store already refused to take the $5/2 Thermacare Advil coupon because it wouldn’t go through so both me and my husband had to go back and find more items at that point also. Cashier took my husbands Jingle Cash first and his transaction went perfect. Ugh. It was a pretty frustrating day.

I was showing my friend (in 1 transaction) how to roll her RR she already had. I was explaining different things while we were at the register and my friend told the cashier that I was teaching her how to coupon. The cashier looked at us and said “oh no not another one, couponing these days is ridiculous.” I said we are practical couponers and are not extreme couponers and do not clear the shelves and using coupons really helps my family. This lady went off for about 10 minutes about couponers and how much of a pain we are ect ect ect! My friend was totally turned off from couponing & She said wow I shouldnt have said anything about coupons. Do you always get that reaction? I was sooooooo embarrassed that it was her first experience and it ended up like that! BOOO on negative walgreens cashiers!

Reply

Lindsay S. December 12, 2011 at 7:31 pm

That’s terrible! I often find that the people who don’t like couponers are the ones that don’t understand the real reasons why we do it or are jealous that we can get such big savings. I had a really rude cashier at Walmart several months ago that didn’t think that what we were doing was right (couponing) and it was terrible! I really hope your friend isn’t too discouraged – it’s so worth it (which I’m sure you already know!) and occasionally we have to deal with terrible cashiers that may be rude right to your face. At least you have the comfort of knowing that you don’t have to pay full price for what you need and you support your family!

Reply

Karen A December 13, 2011 at 2:30 am

Marissa, really truly, you should have called the manager over. Ask a manager “I am teaching this customer how to correctly use a coupon. We plan on frequenting your store, and this cashier appears to have a problem with people who use coupons. DO you share this opinion?” If the manager shares it, call corporate and ask for a district manager to call you. Walgreens has terrific customer service and strives to take care of all of us in a fair and very positive way. I’m sure they would like to hear this.

Reply

Christie December 12, 2011 at 5:33 pm

It’s possible that your store never activated the codes for the book. Has that happened to you before at that store with the infant care book? If your area never got the books it’s possible they never even put it in their system.

JUNE- coupons/register deals/etc are entered by the manager or assitant manager at the Walgreens stores. If they haven’t entered the Infant Care book into their data base, it will come up “Coupon not on file.” Ask the manager of the store if they have entered the coupon book.

Hello – I just wanted to comment on the Goody hair accessories. For the claw clips, there are two different sizes, medium and mini. The package itself is not labeled but if you look at the price tag on the shelf (mylar), you need to get the one that says mini. At my store, the medium were not ringing or producing the RR, but the mini did. They look exactly alike and the package doesn’t show a difference, so you have to look at the shelf tag. The mini UPC is 04145782775(8).

Oh and one more thing- why do all of you go get more items and pay more than you should? I never understand that. Buying items at the register is NOT a contract!!!! If it doesn’t work out, POLITELY decline the transaction, cancel everything and ask for your coupons back. I have even said “Please do not write on my coupons or mark through them because if something doesn’t go through I am not going to make this purchase.” It is appreciated and works a lot better- and then I do not get resentful that I had to buy some items I don’t want to just use a coupon!!! Keep it in mind- will lower your stress!!

HALLS BOGO 50%
Yesterday, I bought 2 bags of Halls Cough Drops which are on special for $.99. I had Q’s of $1 so I gave the two. The first one past the second one wouldn’t scan and in my stores they do not do adjust the Q even if you show them their policy. So the cashier (she is really nice to me) tells me it wouldn’t scan because you have a coupon of $1 and the second bag is $.49 with a 50%. I could only use one coupon for a total of .48 for the two bags which is good.

This is the scenario
one bag .99
second bag .49
total $1.48 for two bags
