Updates From the Field 11/20

by Christie Bisbee on November 20, 2011

Here are some updates from my trip today that can hopefully make your trip a little easier.

INFANTS AND CHILDREN’S ADVIL
I purchased (2) of the Children’s Advil and had no issues. Yay! I did hear from some of you on Facebook that the Infant Care Book was only taking off $1 instead of $2 for the Infant Advil. My store was totally out of the Infant’s Advil so I wasn’t able to try it. So, if you got the Infant’s Advil let us know!

EXCEDRIN
The Excedrin Migraine & Extra Strength 24ct are both part of the Register Reward deal, you can get a good deal on these when you combine the $1/1 coupon and the Register Reward.

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Excedrin Migraine Gel Tabs 24ct $5.29
(2) Excedrin Extra Strength Gel Tabs 24ct $5.29
Total = $21.16
(2)-$1/1 Excedrin Migraine, Any 24 Ct+
(2) -$1/1 Excedrin Extra Strength Product, Any 20 Ct+
Total = $17.16, Get Back $10
Total = $1.79 EACH

NABISCO CRACKERS
I didn’t find any crackers at my store that were larger than 6oz, so I decided to save my coupon for a better deal. There were cookies that met the size requirement but not crackers.

VANITY FAIR NAPKINS
The Vanity Fair B1G1 sale must be pretty popular even with non-couponers because my store was out! If you don’t find it at your store don’t forget to get a rain check. The coupons are good for a while so you’ll have time to grab this deal when they restock.

Vanity Fair 100 pack Napkins B1G1 FREE (approx $2.99)
-.55/1 Vanity Fair Napkins, any
-$1/2 Vanity Fair Napkins, any

-$1.25/2, .65/1, $1/2 Vanity Fair Napkins, any packages – 10-23-11 RP x12/31
= $.95 EACH

REGISTER REWARDS ON LIQUOR?
I was a bit surprised to see Register Reward deals on hard liquor in my ad today. Maybe I’m missing something, but I just wonder if the person coming in to buy a 1.75 liter of Smirnoff Vodka is really the same person who is a big Register Reward shopper? I know this deal is regional so you may not see it in your ad.

The Walgreens I was at this morning has a liquor store attached. So on a hunch, I checked the trash can closest to the liquor store entrance on my way into the store. As luck would have it there was a $5 Register Reward sitting right on top! And yes, I did reach in and pull it out of the garbage (that’s what travel size hand sanitizer is for!). 😉

So how was your shop? Find any great deals? Let us know!

I would have reached right in the trash too! 😉

Girl, I would of too! That is odd, here in Oklahoma we dont have the liquor store attached or I would of looked too!

Reply

shannyn November 20, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I would’ve done the same. Thats just as easy as bending down and pcking up a $5.00 bill.

stacia November 20, 2011 at 5:13 pm

My store was out of the infants also.

On a sad note, there were NO coupons in the St Louis Post Dispatch today! I checked 3 gas stations, Walgreens and Walmart! My local paper had a sucky SS insert (no Brut or Infusium coupons). Why do inserts vary so much? And did anyone get coupons in their St Louis paper today??!?!?!

And I would have grabbed a 5RR too!

caryn November 20, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Wow that’s odd mine had it, and I’m not even in the suburbs.

Reply

tiara November 20, 2011 at 5:48 pm

My St Louis Post had the coupons!

Reply

stacia November 20, 2011 at 8:02 pm

well, i live 80 east of St Louis. My choices of “good” papers are St Louis, Decatur (which has the same crappy insert as my local paper) or Chicago Trib (which is $3.00 and I refuse to spend that much). 🙂 I sent some of my friends closer to St Louis on a search for me today.

tiara November 20, 2011 at 11:42 pm

That sucks. I’m 70 miles east of St Louis.

I got one infant advil and one childrens advil and my Walgreens coupon took off $4.00 so it worked in south Louisiana.

Erin November 20, 2011 at 5:22 pm

at my walgreens, the vanity fair napkins were out 🙁 but right next to the napkins is toilet paper & they had a bunch hidden behind the toilet paper…. so i scored on the vanity fair napkins & the childrens advil!

i thought you couldnt use RR on alcohol? i know extra bucks cant be used on alcohol so that really is weird! lol

The children’s advil at my store was in with all the rest of the adult medicine (in a children’s section), NOT in the regular baby section. I wouldn’t have thought to look there, but I asked an associate and she led me to where they were. I bought 4. Amazing deal since my baby is teething. I had to buy some of these at regular price (GASP!) recently, so I’m very thankful for this deal this week. The boxes say they don’t expire until 2014 too!!

Dana November 20, 2011 at 5:46 pm

How lucky! I would have grabbed it too LOL I got children’s advil and had a $2.00 off coupon I got from the docs office and the $1.10 printed coupon. I also picked up 2 packages of Viva, since that’s the only paper towel my family will use around here. If I put out a different brand, my husband will go to my stock pile and get out a roll of viva instead, so that’s all I’m buying from now on I guess.

My Wags was out of the Infant Care coupon book and that totally threw off my plan. Lesson learned to grab these books as soon as they come out. That being said, I have heard people talk about the code on the coupon. Do all Wags’ do that? Like I can just tell them the code and they’ll punch it in and I’ll get the coupon off price? I’m anticipating hassle…?

Gabriella Gai November 20, 2011 at 6:10 pm

The Advil code is 5520 in case anyone needs it:)

FrugalBehind November 20, 2011 at 7:08 pm

It’s one of those YMMV situations. All the regular coupon advice applies: Get rung up at the photo or cosmetics counter, ask beforehand if they will do it (some stores will, some won’t) to avoid hassles at checkout.

Reply

Houstonmama November 20, 2011 at 9:20 pm

LaToya, what I do is always check out at cosmetics counter and always ask “Do you have the Walgreens Infant Care Book? Every store should have one. Oh, you don’t have it? Could you key in the coupon code for these Children’s Advil, 5520?” And every time they are nice enough to key it in, because it’s a Walgreens coupon and the store is supposed to have the book anyway. 🙂

LaToya November 21, 2011 at 1:07 pm

Thank you… I’ll have to give it a shot. My Wags isn’t coupon-friendly. But it’s worth a shot either way.

You might want try a different Walgreens. Maybe there are not many where you live, but I have 4 less then 10 minutes away from me.

adri November 20, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I put vodka in my “famous” sangria, and there is a lot of it to be made over the holidays! I’d pick it up at Wags if there was an RR 😉

Gabriella Gai November 20, 2011 at 6:08 pm

Had a great trip to Wags…got 4 Children’s Advil and made $2 on the deal.

Bought 2 and used (2)$2.00 coupons and the $2.00 from ICB. They were $1 each and I got a $3 RR back (Did this transaction twice)

The only disappointment was that they only had 5 bottles of Excedrin Menstral left so I had to grab 4 which threw my plan off by a few $$$ but I’m happy w/ my trip regardless:)

Sammy November 20, 2011 at 6:11 pm

Is there anyone willing to send me 1 advil coupon from the Infant Care Book because no Wags around me have it. My children love advil and I would like to get some. My wags would not punch in the code. They need the coupon!! I’m so sad and bummed. Please email me if you can. [email protected] Thanks in advanced!!!

Brenda November 20, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Sammy,
I just sent you an email, I have the coupon just need your address!

My brother is a salesman for wine and he claims that in our area (Central Wisconsin) there will be 6 different $5 RR deals for Black Friday. Some of then are good deals for pretty good wine (his opinion, not mine). He, too, wondered about rolling the RRs on non-alcohol purchases. Maybe the trick is to buy all of the alcohol in one trip, then the non-alcoholic items on the next. Happy hunting.

Christie, I think the infant care booklet Q isn’t working on the dye free white grape variety and some other varieties as it did not take anything off my two infant white grape variety, just beeped so the manager had to okay manually taking off the $2. My sister got one children’s grape and one children’s blue raspberry and it only took off $2, ditto on adjusting it. My guess is that it is working on the “regular” varieties like grape but not white grape or blue raspberry.

What varieties worked/didn’t work for everyone else?

Reply

Julie November 20, 2011 at 7:48 pm

The ones I bought were the plain grape and it worked fine on those.

Reply

FrugalBehind November 20, 2011 at 8:13 pm

I got 2 Infant/white grape and the IVC worked just fine (I’m in Michigan).
It also had no problem with my (2) $2/1 Infant Advil that I found at the doctor’s as well.

In addition, before even paying, it printed a cat for $1/1 any Children’s Advil product. Couldn’t use that, but oh well :).

I bought the dye-free and the $2 came off with manually entering the coupon code

Ok, so where I live in SW Florida, the people here have the couponing bug like crazy. So I wouldn’t normally post anything until I have had the chance to pick up my items so that they are not gone before I get there.
BUT.. since it’s tis’ the season to share (actually I share all of the time), I wanted to let everyone in on another great deal that I found. Walgreens ad has a Q for Scotch Mailers for 49 cents each(limit 3). I also found a manufacturer’s Q for Scotch Mailers in the “Winter Family Savings” book from Publix grocery stores for $1/2. Making them free. Q will have to be adjusted down, but still free plus any tax. Happy Holidays!

Houstonmama November 20, 2011 at 9:25 pm

I would pick up a RR from the trash or the ground, who cares! And I HAVE picked them up from the ground! Good for you, Christie!

mary kay November 20, 2011 at 9:42 pm

at my wags i bought 2 childrens advil (out of infants) and gave the code. took 4 bucks off so it was 3 and some change. got a 3 rr AND it printed a 1 off childrens advil.

i went to a diff wags and got the 2 infant ones. same thing. so i then i used the two qs that printed and got 2 more childrens (i got the last 2 infant).

so after rr, i got 6 boxes for about 50 cents each.

I was able to score on the Playtex RR deal. My $4/2 internet qs expired today; so lucky I was able to use them! Got 4 boxes for $1 ea. These will be going back to college with my daughter after Thanksgiving break for her and her roommates. Tried to use my $2 Bayer Advanced q with the In-Ad 1.99 q. Cashier would not do it for me. Never had that problem before. I politely asked to have the item removed from my purchase, took the WAGS ad to WalMart, and price matched.

Just got back from my Walgreen’s in Michigan and it took off $4.00 from the infant care booklet and I had (2) $2.00 from my doctors office. I paid $2.58 and received a $3.00 RR

I would have reached into the trash can too!
I have a Walgreen’s in my area that has a liquor store attached.
And you can be sure, I will be checking the trash tomorrow.

so i don’t know if all Wags did this, but mine had a bunch of Clairol hair color on clearance for $4 each, so i grabbed 4 (i have thick hair so 2 of each shade lol), and used my $2/any clairol from P&G i think, paying only 2 dollars per box, but to my surprise, a 3 dollar RR printed out after, making all 4 boxes only 5 bucks! not bad!

I was able to get this deal with the wag coupon plus a manufacturer coupon. It took $2 off each childrens advil for the wag coupon and then another $2 off for the manufacturer coupon making them less then $1 each! Talk about a sweet deal!
