Updates From The Field 8/7

by Christie Bisbee on August 7, 2011

I am actually sitting on a plane right now coming back from a conference about blogging (I had no idea that planes had internet now). I had the chance to meet some other fabulous bloggers and learn more about how I can to make my blog better.

So, I sent my hubby Terry back to the store to try some deals for us today. Here’s what he found…

KERI DEAL
The Keri deal worked just fine ringing up at $5.99. We have new scanners at our store that beep at everything, but when the cashier folded the coupon and scanned just the correct part of the bar-code, there were no problems. Just be sure to look for the display as most stores won’t have a place for the Keri Lotion on the shelves.

Some of you have asked if the deal was just Saturday for the “Saturdate with Beauty”. No, it should ring up at $5.99 all week, the “Saturdate with Beauty” is just the opportunity to learn more about it from the Beauty Advisor and an opportunity for the Beauty Advisor to earn a little something for the ones sold.

HUGGIES DEAL
There were no problems here either and our store was well stocked.

CRAYOLA DEAL
Check your ad to see if you have the Crayola Register Reward Deal in your area. Like I mentioned before, it appears they are rotating the wrap around ad with the back to school deals depending on your area.

CARMEX DEAL
If you got the wrap around you can get some seriously cheap Carmex! (Thanks Andy!)

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Carmex
(1) In ad coupon making it $.99 each
(1) Wrap around coupon making it B1G1
= $.50 each!

What deals did you find today! How was your shop? Let us know!

(Thanks Terry for testing those deals for us! ;-))

I also had a heck of a time finding the Keri – it was tucked away on a cardboard display, with only six or so there (not cleared – there was only room for six.) I was out early and hit two walgreen’s and was able to get two. I am still annoyed with myself though because I used my $1/1 Revlon tool coupon on a tweezer that was marked down to $1.49 and somehow it scanned wrong and I got charged $10.49. I think it was just a mistake, but I was using a lot of coupons and buying newspapers so I didn’t really notice until I got home. So now I have to go back tomorrow. :/ Because I have never spent $10 on a tweezer in my life! Even before I used coupons.

Christie August 7, 2011 at 7:43 pm

Wow Dina – that was one big price error at the register! Hope they fix it for you tomorrow!

Reply

dina August 7, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Yeah, I feel stupid for not noticing, but with all the coupons and RR’s and it being 7AM – I just didn’t quite know what to expect. The total sounded a little high, but some of the monthly deals weren’t posted and the Purex wasn’t posted yet, so I was just going by my notes – it was a great shop if they fix that error (which sounds like someone just added a zero when fixing the price in the computer – even full price, when does a basic revlon tweezer cost that much?) I have the receipt in my wallet and the tweezer in my car. I’ll go back later in the day tomorrow when they have someone besides a nervous teenaged boy in the store (he was nice about the coupons though.) If I can get them to fix the error it was a great shop –
1 Boston Globe @ 3.50
2 Purex @ 1.99 – $1/2 = 1.50 each
1 Listerine smart rinse 3.00 – $1/2 – $2RR = free
1 Keri Lotion 5.99 – $2/1 – 5RR = 1$MM
and then the freaking _tweezer_, which I wasn’t even planning to buy until it was on sale was $10.99 – $1/1 coupon. Grrrr. I usually hate doing returns, but that was pretty ridiculous.

There was no Keri lotion at my store, but a sign instead saying they would be available for the Saturday beauty event. It seems they are holding them back for the beauty advisor to earn some extra cash.

I didn’t get the RR deal with the Kerri! I was very disappointed b/c I spent a long time making a plan that used my RR perfectly to get new RR. Two of the Wags I went to didn’t even have Kerri lotion. The one that did didn’t give the RR. I hope everyone else had better luck. I will try again on the “Saturdate”.

I was in my Wags yesterday and they had 2 displays but only about 3 lotions left. I went back today and the displays were empty but there were about 6 Keri’s in the regular lotion section. I grabbed one of those and the deal worked out just fine!

I had a problem with the diapers they wouldnt take the walgreens coupon because the diapers that were on sale werent big enough of a pack for the coupon.

Reply

Scott August 8, 2011 at 12:40 pm

If you are referring to the Walgreens Infant Care booklet Huggies coupon, it is for the box diapers or 184+ count wipes. I learned this the hard way myself a couple months back. You can still score some great deals with this coupon though.

No Keri lotion at my store and the cashier told me no when I tried to use the dove coupon for the miniatures she said it was for ice cream only I asked her to ask a manager and he said the picture was for ice cream so still a no.

Had an AWESOME Wags trip this morning!! $130+ in product and spent $14.41 out of pocket with $5RR left over for later 🙂

Reply

Darlene August 7, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Lindsay, did you have quite a few RR’s to use to end up only paying $14.41? How many times did you check out to buy $130 worth of items?

Reply

lindsay August 7, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Darlene, I started with $20 RR, did 5 transactions and used RR made in the previous transaction to bring down the cost more. I’m also an Army wife and Walgreens does a 15% military discount so that brings my overall total way down compared to most 🙂

Reply

grace August 7, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Do all the Walgreens give the military discount? I wish I knew that before.

Reply

julie August 8, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Some Walgreens give a military discount and some do not. We live in a small city and one Walgreens does and the other does not. Also our Walgreens only does a military discount on Tuesdays. So I would call your Walgreens and ask a manager.

Reply

Darlene August 8, 2011 at 10:02 am

Thanks for explaining, Lindsay – I think it is nice that Walgreens give a military discount. My store/clerks frown on multiple transactions – I’ve done two with the same clerk.

My Walgreens said I could buy the Carmax for .99 or buy the BOGO for $1.69.

Reply

Reply

My walgreens wouldn’t accept both either. Annoying because I got to use 2 walgreens coupons on the Huggie baby wipes. Cashier did try but the register beeped and that was that.

There were also $0.35/1 Carmex Printables a while back that you can stack with the Carmex deal to make them $0.15 wyb 2!!! I did it today and it worked fine!!!! Now is a good time to stock up on Carmex for the winter months!!!!

Linds August 7, 2011 at 8:30 pm

The Keri was out at both Wags I went to today. That’s OK though because I was able to snag it last week. I was also able to stock up on wipes– SO excited about that! I did have a heck of a time at the 2nd wags I went to. They told me I could (a) not roll register rewards– they were only to be used on my NEXT trip to the store, and (b) not get more than 1 register reward per item, even if they were separate transactions. I was quite ticked, since the other wags in our area is SO great with everything. Needless to say, I’ll probably not go back to that Wags again. Is this just a manager being a stickler about stuff or are things changing???

Reply

shelly August 8, 2011 at 12:28 pm

It seems like each manager makes up their own rules to follow. Some mangers are down right nasty and others are easy going. When I come across a manager or cashier that gives me greif, I will always aviod them the next time I go there. I’ve even gone as fare as looking in the store first to see who’s working before shopping and if there is know one there that won’t give me greif, I walk out and go to the next store. As fare as I know policies have not changed. You could call corparate and complain about your experience, just remember the name of the cashier or manger.

Jessica August 7, 2011 at 8:45 pm

No Keri in Bryan, Tx today either. The displays have been up for a week but they’re emtpty except for the testers and none on the shelf. Kind of difficult to believe they were sold out at 7am, especially knowing they get their truck on Friday here!

Reply

Lisa August 7, 2011 at 9:04 pm

Sounds like stores had very little stock and it only takes one person buying 5 to wipe them out. Why the Walgreen’s employees don’t limit the number of identical transactions one person does is beyond me. I mean, the ad does say “LIMIT ONE”. I went to two stores and found no Keri. There were two women shopping together with a huge binder and they said it was their second store. Wish Wags would switch to a card system like CVS; seems like the only way to help keep greedy people in check.

Reply

Anna m August 7, 2011 at 11:23 pm

I wouldn’t assume they are greedy! I Always buy alot of the ” free deals” and give them to my grandmother, aunt who makes very little money, and my mother and I make “giftbags” for women in our community who often don’t have computers or even cars to get these deals! I hope they never create limits! I also go every Saturday at midnight which is tough when I have to get up and take my baby to church. (sorry for the rant) definitely not directed at anyone! Perhaps this is just an idea

Reply

Kendra August 8, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Lisa- Well said, I completely agree with you!
I also cant stand when people use the excuse to be greedy by saying Im getting everything on the shelf because Im “donating it” I think the products should go to the people that actually put in the effort to go to the store and purchase them. I donate as well but, I would never use the excuse of “donating” to clear a shelf and not leave anything for others.

Bryan, TX!?! Did you happen to catch the $2 RR on $1 Crayola Crayons they were printing at the Wags on East 29th St yesterday? I noticed it yesterday when I got home, of course it has been corrected by now. Last week I bought a couple Keri lotions with $2 q = Free (they even had $2 q with display). At first I was regretting it because I could’ve saved them for this week and made $1.01 profit, but now I’m glad I did buy them last week. I used their coupons and now nowhere to shop to use my own. It’s been over a month that I have been able to get everything on my weekly drugstore lists. Walgreens on Booneville used to be my favorite store cause they always had everything I needed in-stock, but now I know it’s cause they don’t open till 8am on Sunday and that’s when I happened to be starting my Sunday shopping … grr, I don’t want to have to start pulling all-nighters and shop at the 24 hr stores.

Reply

Melissa August 8, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Wow – lucky on that Crayola RR! I just got back from that location, and you were right about them fixing it, as I only got 1 RR. I should’ve gotten the Keri lotion last week… oh well! Maybe I will try on Saturday morning w/ their “Saturdate” event. Surely they will have more in stock for that?!

Btw, I love the Boonville location on Sunday mornings, because of the cashier! His name is Clyde, and he always works first thing Sunday morning, and he is SO coupon-friendly. Very patient 🙂

Gillette Fusion Proglide PWR ($9.99) for $1.99 deal. I’ve purchased the gift pack (comes w/ shave prep, cartiridge, etc.) $9.99 and using the $4/1 coupon along with the B1G1; Buy Gillette Fusion Proglide cartridge and get Gillette Proglide Shave Gel Prep Free (P&G 7/31) … I know Wal-Mart has same gift pack for $4.97, but their always out of stock and Walgreens on Booneville has tons!!! I should’ve bought more newspapers that Sunday … cheaper to buy the shaver for $1.99 than it is to buy the + $15 cartridges.

Buy the large Huggies wipes at $5.99. Use the coupon from the Walgreens August Coupon Book to get $2 off. Use the coupon from the Infant Care book to get another $2 off. Then use the $.50 off manufacturer coupon to make the total $1.49 each. Cheap wipes!

I am please to say that I was the happiest when I walked out the store this morning! I have pre-ordered 13 Keri Lotions last week and was told that they will not have control on how many the manufacturers will send them. So I was so surprised when my Wags manager called me last Thursday to tell me that my lotions are in the store waiting for me! I told him I have to wait til Sunday (today) because of the sale price. Soooo, I got all 13 Keri Lotions today along with other deals. Brought home $230ish worth of merchandise, paid $52 and some change OOP and ended up with $40.00 worth of RR. so it’s like I paid $12 for everything!!! Awesome, awesome week for me!

Reply

Cocoa August 7, 2011 at 9:58 pm

by the way, my store did have decent stock of Keri in their shelves today. My order was at the Manager’s office and had my name on the box. I left the store with a good conscience that I did not wipe the shelf. I hope I dont offend anybody for buying 13! They are all getting donated. Thanks!

My store wouldn’t let me use two of the Huggies store coupons together then the cashier tried to take the one from the baby booklet claiming it was a manufacturers q and they found they had been falling short monetarily due to those! I flat out refused to let her have it and told her to just use the one in the August book. She also tried to refuse to take the Revlon store Q with the catalina coupon!

my wags are great!! they had the keri lotion and I got 2 (one at each store) they had a small display like the rest of the stores. But come truck days my wags will be in full stock….. I share the deals to give them the heads up so they tend to stay instock. Before I started sharing the really hot buys they were out of everything all the time! Sharing helps me and every other couponer in the area 🙂

Reply

joy August 7, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Our Wags will not let you use more than 4 of the same coupon in the same day not matter how many transactions you do. They do not order much of anything. when I was buying body wash a while back I wanted like 12 bottles because I had bogo coupons. I have a friend who works there and she said we will be lucky if we get that many in even. They really need to start ordering more of stuff when it is going to be on sale. And here the stuff that is going to be on sale Sunday goes on Saturday evening so it sell out that way too.

Reply

Christy August 7, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I am new to Walgreens and find the RR very confusing. Are you able get RR then turn around and use on a different transaction but the same trip?

Reply

Why would someone buy and donate 13 lotions? Leave some so the rest of us can get our deals, sheesh!!

Reply

april August 7, 2011 at 11:16 pm

stacy,

remember that she special ordered her 13 bottles she was going to buy, so that does not affect the stores quantity received. at least she special ordered. I was in a store this morning in Moreno valley, ca that was holding the lotion for a customer that just walked in the store, i asked if i could just have 1 and she said no, he asked first for the 10 bottles, i said the limit is one. and she said sorry. i said thank you i will be calling corporate! she said ok. so give this lady kudos for special ordering.

Reply

Karie August 7, 2011 at 11:23 pm

You did notice that she pre-ordered them and did not touch what was on the shelves, right? And you are annoyed that someone bought 13 lotions and paid for them (even after coupons there was still an oop cost) with their own money, and selflessly donated them to those less fortunate? Really? Would you have had a problem if she ordered them and bought them all at regular price when it wasn’t a sale item that you wanted too? I don’t think it’s anybody’s business but their own as to how many of anything a person wants to buy at the store. Especially when they are courteous enough to pre-order. If you had a problem getting one at your store, it is probably because that store didn’t have any on hand to begin with. There is not really a need for you to make someone else feel bad for what you didn’t get. Not trying to be mean, that just really was unnecessary.

Cocoa August 8, 2011 at 7:56 am

Reply

Stacy August 25, 2011 at 8:18 am

It does affect the stores stock. The store gets a certain amount and sets some aside for the pre order. I am so sorry for offending and sorry you feel i was criticizing. I didn’t realize the poor were in such desperate need of Keri lotion.

Cocoa August 8, 2011 at 8:10 am

Why not talk to your store manager to see if they can order more for you? When I pre-ordered, I was told it’s not likely to happen but it did! I did not do anything unethical. I can understand that it is frustrating when you want it and your store didn’t have it. But I did not touch the shelf, I did not take someone else’s. There were many couponers in my store that morning and they all got what they wanted. Peace!

I went today to ask for the sale price difference from my Keri Lotion purchases last week (2 @ 6.99). Was actually given a hard time by the manager. She said that technically she shouldn’t do it, and that I should have to go back to the store I originally purchased them at and return the item. I told her I didn’t want to return them, just get the $1 difference back. She pointed out that the store where I purchased them from was getting credit for the $2 coupon I used, and not them. I really didn’t understand what difference that made…..I got the refund, but had to hear that standard statement “i’ll do it for you this time, but next time…..”

laureen August 8, 2011 at 2:07 am

yeah it seem weird… my manager told me that when a guy wanted to buy bio-oil and saw that there was a sign on it that said we had coupons. i guess it makes sense. B/c our counts will still be the same and not have sold any.

Reply

cashier August 8, 2011 at 10:00 am

The problem is that the different store will be short $1 because they didn’t collect any monies from you since you shopped at a different store (why didn’t you go to original store for the refund?).
Second, I don’t think walgreens has a price match policy like target or best buy (where you buy an item one week and if it’s on sale the next you get your difference)
Third, wanting a dollar back on an item that was free after q and rr really is greedy since if you read blogs then you might have looked at the preview ad for this week on I heart wags and knew they would be on sale for a dollar less.

The Keri lotion was on the shelf AND on a display table (our store puts all the free/cheap RR deals on little tables in the cosmetics aisle). I had a great shop Sunday, although the Smart Rinse blue color was low stock – only 1 at the first store I stopped at, and at the second store they only had the Barbie flavor. Spent $2.75 OOP, ending with $4RR more than I started with and got $35+ worth of stuff. Love Wags and thanks Christie for all your help.

it probably won’t work, since they are the same company. Use it on another brand of item.

I did 2 transactions yesterday. First transaction I got 1 Keri lotion for my wife. Used a $2 manufacturer coupon and got it for $3.99 plus tax. Then used the $5 RR on the next transaction for 4 packs of Huggies wipes. My subtotal for the wipes and a school supply folder (filler) after 4 manufacturers coupons, infant care booklet coupon, and August book store coupon, was $1.40. For 4 big packs of wipes, that is an AWESOME deal!! I couldn’t pass that up. I had no problems with everything ringing up either. The cashier that works on sunday mornings knows who I am and that I know what I am doing with the coupons and how it all works. I never have any issues at my store.

I asked about the Keri at my Washington state store . . . was told that they “might” be available for Saturday’s Saturdate. But probably only a few.

The game of checking to see if something is available, then going back to the store several times is getting frustrating. I will send a letter to corporate asking why!

So why many people worry about it?
If can not get this week, why not get it for next week and a week after? still plenty of time to get it?

Reply

Maria August 9, 2011 at 7:53 am

Erwina, this week the Keri deal is a MM because it is on sale for 5.99. This is why everyone is wanting to get it this week. Although, you could try to get a rain check for the 5.99 price. Normally, they are 8.99 at my store. Monthly price I think is 6.99.

Warehouse is out, I was able to order some (different supplier)that will be available to ship on the 11th. The Moisture (pink) is back ordered from the Manuf. & won’t be available until Sept.! So it seems this is a manuf. problem. I suggest getting a rain check for the $5.99 price & waiting until Keri can get it to us. RR will print until the end of the month. As a Walgreens employee this is VERY frustrating! I try my best to get “hot” items in large quanities, but somtimes it’s out of my hands. Your best bet is to try Sat. morning. If you do happen to find it, check out in cosmetics 😉

I found an emty Keri lotion display, but I had recently read on another site about people hiding items so I moved the display forward and there was ONE bottle behind the display.

That’s so odd. On Sunday I was looking at some summer clearance toys and found 2 Keri lotions stashed in a sand bucket. Some people do the weirdest things. Tip for those of you having trouble finding any lotion in stock. Check out your clearance section!

I was told on Sunday that the Keri deal was only for “Saturdate”, so I paid 6.99 and got 5 RR. I even called 1-800-walgreens and was told that it was only for “Saturdate.” i’m so confused because they told me I shouldn’t have gotten the 5 RR. Should I have only paid 5.99 or 6.99?

How many Huggies wipes are you allowed to purchase in one transaction using the coupons from the August book and Infant care book?
