WARNINGS From the Field!

by Christie Bisbee on October 17, 2010

Today’s post isn’t an “updates” form the field. It’s more of a “warnings” from the field! So here’s everything that’s wonky today in the wonderful world of Walgreens…

LISTERINE DEAL
Looks like some of the $1/1 coupons for the Listerine deal are coded exactly like the Register Reward. Since it’s exactly the same value when you use the $1/1 to pay it thinks you are using a $1 RR that you just got for buying Listerine to pay and no $1 RR prints out. I used the 03-07-10 RP and I also heard from Rita at Chi-town Cheapskate who used the 04-11-10 RP and had the same problem.
_______________________________________________________________________________
GLADE CANDLE DEAL
I think this was a fluke for me but the $2/2 Glade Candle from the October coupon book was NOT working with any of the 4oz candles at my store today. Not a one. I even tried just buying candles with no other coupon and it wouldn’t take off the $2/2 coupon. I think is is unique to my store or my area but just make sure it comes off for you.

If yours is working you can get a GREAT deal…

Buy
4 – Glade 4oz Candles 2/$6 Sale Price
Total = $12
Use
2 – B1G1 Glade 4oz Candles 09-26-10 SS
1 – $1.50/2 Glade 4oz Candles PRINT

1 – $2/2 Glade 4oz Candles Oct Coupon Book
Total = $.50 for 4

Hopefully you won’t have this problem and will be able to enjoy super cheap candles and I can live through you. The irony was that I wanted to try this deal myself before posting because of the MQ, which all worked great! I never imagined my store would not have the store coupon coded for the candles! Ugh!

COFFEE-MATE DEAL
Just remember that although the Walgreens coupon policy says they’ll adjust the value of the coupon down, I find that 99% of cashiers and managers don’t have a clue about this.  Believe me it pains me to say that but sadly, it’s the truth. With that in mind I just try to avoid the hassle and adjust my scenarios accordingly.  So here’s my suggestion…

Buy
4 – Coffeemate $2.69 B1G1 FREE
Total = $5.38
3-$1.50/1 Coffee-Mate Liquid or Powdered Creamer 15-oz+ PRINT
1-$.75/1 ; $1/3 Coffee-mate Creamers PRINT
Total = $.13 or $.03 EACH

I hope none of you have these issues and this post can make your transactions just a little smoother this week! 😉

I don’t know if it was just my store but the coffee mate rang up first one at 2.49 and the second one at .20…so they wouldn’t let me use a second coupon…well they would have, but I wasn’t going to have them adjust down a $1.50 coupon to $.20; I’ll just save it for another day.

Also, I just have to add this tidbit about my cashier. Granted, she was a very young girl, probably no more than 18, but when the Nivea BW coupon beeped at her, and she got a puzzled look on her face, I said “you need to adjust it down, because the bodywash was only 2.50.” And her answer was, “I don’t know what to adjust it down to.” Oh my, I weep for the future of America. All in all, not a great trip for me this week 🙁

If anyone gets a better outcome with the Glade deal, please post! I was going to do that one but maybe not :/

Jennifer – Oh my, that’s scary about your cashier! My coffee mate rang up $2.49 and $.20 too but they let me use all my coupons and no beeps!

THought I’d share this. I used 2 $3/1 MQ for the Nivea Mens and 1 $3/2 for the Nivea Women. Got 2 Nivea Men and 2 Nivea Women. No beeps! But I must warn that the $3/2 MQ for the Nivea Women is configured as 2 coupons so I couldn’t use a $1RR to offset the $1 remaining. That’s fine by me as I’ve already used the Nivea mens Q to offset my Nivea womens purchase.

Try checking out at the cosmetics counter, there are rarely any problems with the three stores in my area when checking out at their register. No waiting and much more “know how” 🙂

Elisa October 17, 2010 at 5:33 pm

When I bought the Nivea last night, I asked him to price the coupon down to $2.50 and he said they get in trouble if they do that too many times. Hmmm. He called a manager and she said it was fine, no problem. I believe what you say about 99% not knowing the Wags coupon policy! I just wish they would inform their employees of their own store policies. Oh well, I still love the MAJOR Nivea moneymaker last night! 😀

My store in Meridian, ID had Glade candles on clearance for $.79 and I used the $2/2 from the Walgreens book and got them free. YEAH!

Having soooooo many problems getting cashiers to adjust coupon values down. It is a HUGE production EVERY time, almost becoming not worth it 🙁 Usually even once I show them THEIR coupon policy, I get “what is that” or “where did you get that”. Even with the printed out policy I am still having to argue over it, so aggrivated!!!! Most managers are giving me problems too. Note to self: call corporate!

I had that problem with the. 89 cookie yesterday. The cashier said they could not adjust any coupon down. I showed here the coupon policy but she treated me like I printed it myself. I think I might try coffeemate deal at another store

Newbie here,
Refering to the glade candle deal is there a certain order in which you hand the b1g1 coupons and the $1.50/2 coupons? I always have problems with cashiers taking the second coupon. Does it matter the order?

Reply

Christie October 17, 2010 at 6:46 pm

I did the B1G1’s first and then the $1.50/2. It worked great. Then you do the Store coupon last. My issue was just my store didn’t have the Glade coupon programmed into the register! GRRRR.

Check the clearance aisle. I found glade candle 4oz for $1.00 each. I used 1 2/1.50 coupon and the october coupon book. $1.50 money maker 🙂

Did anyone try the kelloggs deal? I bought 2 12-pack pop-tarts. They rang up at the sale price 2/$5 but no RR printed. My wags is really great and will just give you the RR amount in cash so it wasn’t a big deal but I was going to do some other kelloggs transactions and didn’t want to keep causing them trouble so thought I might go back later in week. Didn’t know if this was a problem wags might fix or if it was a problem with just the pop-tarts. Anyone have any feedback?

I got a hassle about the Glade candle deal. They would not let me use the BOGO coupon and the Walgreens $2 coupon cause the 2nd one was free and I was not really paying for it. This was at the store that usually gives me no problems.

Brittany October 17, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I had no problems with the glade deal or the coffee mate deal! My lucky day I guess : )

My cashiers are clueless about adjusting down as well. I went in to get Vicks drops and told her it would need to be adjusted down to $0.99 but she just started scanning and when it beeped she put in $0.99 for the rest of the coupons, so I actually had a little moneymaker! Lol

Last week I tried doing the glade candle deal with candles that are on clearance. The coupon would not work so my assistant manager put in a fix it ticket for corprate and 2 days later it worked. Maybe your store could do the same?

Reply

Renata October 17, 2010 at 8:33 pm

Half of the stores I go to do not know how to adjust down a coupon. I even had an assistant manager of 23 years (according to his nametag)tell me he could not do it. Not worth it, I just left and email the complaint to them. Has anyone ever gotten a response from a complaint?

claire October 17, 2010 at 8:56 pm

I’m not sure the galde deal will work, when I printed the $1.5/2 it said it can’t be combined with any other coupon??

Reply

Rosy October 17, 2010 at 9:37 pm

I got a call back from an internet complaint. They are required to call you. I just sent in another complaint last night, I tried to do the Nivea deal and he said I was asking them to do “coupon fraud”. So the manager had no idea. I also lost out on the 4 RR. So I want them to respond to that and to educate their employees their coupon policy. I would e-mail and if you do not get a call back, call them.

I had the problem with the listerine smart rinse today. 🙁 The manager made up all sorts of crap about why the RR didn’t print. Now I know the real reason…and it kinda makes sense. I ended up just keeping 2 bottles (sep transactions) at $1.99ea ($1MQea) cause in the end I got good deals with all the other stuff I “bought”.

To: Andrea or anyone else who knows

If you buy 2 women’s nivea and 2 men’s nivea, wouldn’t it be better to use 2 $3/1 and 1 $4/2 coupons to get everything free instead of paying $1 with a $3/2 coupon? Or does the $4/2 coupon not work? Thanks

The Glade candle Wags coupon beeped at my store as well. They had to manually input it. I haven’t been to wags in months and decided to try it for the Nivea & Candles…but I will never go again! I hate everything about that store :{

sorna October 17, 2010 at 10:10 pm

If I buy 2 men’s and 2 women’s nivea, isn’t it better to use 2 $3 coupons and 1 $4 off 2 coupon and have 0 oop as opposed to using a $3 off 2 coupon?

I did the Glade deal today – worked great, with no beeps. I had a $2/2 instead of $1.50/2 so I got all 4 for free 🙂 Only issue I had was that the coupon from the Wags book rings up as a MFG Q so I didn’t have enough fillers to use a previous RR. Would have done the Coffeemate, but they only had hazelnut left 😛

I had an awesome day at Wags today!!! I was so excited!!! All deals worked perfectly for me – that’s a FIRST! Here’s what I got:
8 Nivea BW
6 Glade Candles
4 Dulcolax 8.3 oz
4 cans mushrooms
2 Kashi Cereals

USED:
4 – $3/2 Nivea
3 B1G1 Glade (took off $3 each)
4 – $8 Dulculax
2 – $1 Kashi
1 – $3 Dulcolax Wags Oct Booklet – took off $12
1 – $2/2 Glade Wags Oct Booklet – took of $6
1 – $.50 each mushroom in-ad coupon
2 – $1 Kashi
$4, $4, $1 Register Rewards that expired today

My total was $14.96 before tax – saved a total of $120.64. This was undoubtedly the best I have ever done!

Hello I had a not so bad experience at Walgreens today.

I Bought 3 men’s body wash and I women’s used or try to use 3/$3.00 coupons and 1/$2 for the women but the machine didn’t take the 3/$3.00 so they took and the women’s so at the end I pay $2 for 4 body washes which is great.

The coffee mate rang at $2.49 the first and $0.20 the second but to make my transaction smooth I used 1/$1.50 coupon and a $.75 making them $.44 both that way I can use my other $1.50 at kroger were they are on sale at $1.39 ea.

Got 6 bags or Riccola absolutely FREE!!!!
and 4 Glade canddle holders FREE too!!

couldn’t take advantage of the candles because I didn’t get the BOGO coupon on the candles but this is so awesome!!

You don’t have these same problems at CVS like you do at walgreens. I go there for the deals like all of you but everytime you go to the register at walgreens it’s a crapshoot if you are gonna have problems or not! And maybe it’s just me but thecashiers are more rude at Walgreens! They act like me using coupons & getting things for free is coming out of their paycheck or soe Christie your site is soooo great & the only thing you could do better is to do a CVS page!!!

I love wags but the cashiers and managers are really upsetting me too. I have been using Publix and CVS more now unless there is a good freebie. Today Publix let me use a $3.00 off Q on a $1.75 item that was on sale. They gave me $ :)! My Publix cashiers and managers are awsome though.

I also got the confused “uh I gotta call my manager” for adjusting down the oreo coupon, they only had I pack or I would have bought 2 and used 1 coupon to avoid the hassle. I didn’t have the printed coupon policy but I also went on a day that my “usual” gals in cosmetics weren’t working. Just confusing that the managers don’t know the coupon policy, maybe they should do a training or something but that is in a perfect world. Until then I will plan accordingly and return items if needed without feeling guilty!

To those who asked why I didn’t use the $4/2 MQ for the Nivea BW, it’s because I must have used it before as I couldn’t print it and didn’t have it in my stash. 🙂 Yes, that would have been an even better deal! For all you know, that Q might not be configured as 2 coupons in one (unlike the RP one) and could be used as a spare filler if you have other stuff in your transaction and want to use a RR. Would be interesting to know. 🙂

I purchased the Glade candles also. I was able to get 4 of them for $0.50. The register did beep when the clerk tried to scan the Glade candle coupon. However, the clerk forced it through! HE IS SO NICE!!!

However, this did cause me to have 3 more coupons than expected so I could not use anymore of my RR $ that I wanted to use.

Also, I have learned at Walgreens to make sure that I have the MFC first, then the ISC (in store coupons), and then any RR $ I might be using.

Carol October 18, 2010 at 8:01 pm

My store didn’t have the Walgreen’s Glade candle programed either. The manager came up, took my coupon (to parts unknown) then came back and it worked. I guess he had to program it in somewhere…

Grrrrr…. I just got home from Wags and was also unable to use 2 of the $1.50/1 coupons for the Coffee-Mate. What really topped it off was when I told the Manager that the coupon policy was on the website, she made me wait at the cosmetics counter while she went back to read it herself. Five minutes later, she came back to tell me that she read that they could take 2 coupons, but they can’t ‘ring-down’ coupons on a ‘B1G1’ sale. They can only take them at face value. They can only change the coupon price on a regular sale. At this point I just wanted out of that store!

Am not worried, Walgreens will make it up to me at some point, they just don’t know it yet, lol. Some cashier down the line will ring something incorrectly, I am absolutely positive of that! 😉

I just tried to buy the Nivea and the Coffeemate and they refused to adjust down my coupons. The cashier called the manager who said they can only write in the price on free or B1G1 coupons. I just had them take it off my purcahse and left. I called corporate and they should be calling me back in 2 days. I am so frustrated. It is hard enough to get there with 2 little ones and now I have to go back later.

I went to my walgreens(Indiana) yesterday and I purchased 4 Glade candles for $1.53. I gave her 2 b1g1 free coupons then gave her the 1.50 off 2 then the $2 off 2 walgreens coupon. Worked just great.
