Walgreens Black Friday Scenarios 11/24!

by Christie Bisbee on November 22, 2011

Wowza! Here are my scenarios for the Walgreens Black Friday sale. This sale actually starts on Thursday 11/24, Thanksgiving day. The 11/20 ad that began on Sunday is also good during this week so you may want to look at the Super Deals from that ad too.

In this scenario you would get $81.57 in merchandise, spend $11.57 out of pocket and end up with $23.50 in Register Rewards. So you are getting paid $11.93 to take $80+ worth of merchandise out of the store!

If you don’t have a coupon listed or your coupon value is for less, than your total will be slightly higher. Honestly, the deals are so good that you’d still do great even without a single coupon (but of course that won’t be us ;-)). Have fun everyone!

  • You can take a look at the Walgreens Black Friday Ad & Coupons HERE.

IN transaction 1,2,3 and 4, there are all pfizer products. Will you still be able to use the register rewards in the next transaction? Everyone has been saying not to use one manufacturer RR for another since it may print out “thank you from P&G”. Is this true??

Will the 24 hour stores be starting there sales at midnight on Wednesday night? Thank you.

can someone tell me what time the sales will turn on at the 24 hour stores? thanks 🙂

Reply

Cosette November 22, 2011 at 1:08 pm

I asked the manager at one of the 24 hr stores and he said shortly after midnight the deals will start.

Reply

Christie November 22, 2011 at 1:56 pm

For my area it’s usually 2am ET when they start printing.

Reply

Amanda November 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm

I called the 1800WALGREENS number and they said 4am.

Reply

Mal November 22, 2011 at 12:02 pm

yes, i would like someone to clear up the same manufacture thing??! ive heard you cant roll rrs between same manufacturers??

Reply

Lunise November 22, 2011 at 12:28 pm

You can roll rrs between same mfg if the dollar amount is different. HTH

Reply

Christie November 22, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Lunise is exactly right. As long as it’s not the exact same dollar amount the fact that it’s the same Manufacturer doesn’t matter.

None of the P&G for example are the same dollar amount so you should have no issues.

rashelle November 22, 2011 at 12:47 pm

I just want to let you all know that we got a message yesterday reminding us cashiers that each RR takes 3 seconds to print. So if your doing multiple transactions, make sure you get all your RR before they start ringing up your next one, as soon as the register scans the first item all RR will be cancelled. so if your buying 7 items, make them wait at least 21 seconds to begin the next.

Reply

Christie November 22, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Thanks for the tip Rashelle! 🙂

I was going to ask the same question regarding using the same manufacturer RR’s. Isn’t Gillette, Crest, Oral B, Covergirl from the same manufacturer? What others are the same? Here is my shopping list that fits my families needs. Keep in mind that I am shopping for more than one family. Most items will be donated. Also, I have calculated tax in a few deals.

Feel free to critique this list. I just want to thank Christie for all of her hard work on these scenarios. Because of her effort I was able to tweek this list and hopefully help other families in need. Still wondering about the same manufacturer RR though.

Also, I just wanted to let everyone know that I will have roughly $46.75 in RR left over. I plan to purchase toiletries and christmas gifts with these.

If I have made any mistakes, feel free to comment.
Thanks

Please tell me you don’t do 8 transactions in ONE store -_-

Reply

Amy R. November 22, 2011 at 1:21 pm

At 7am in the morning where I live, it would NEVER be a problem if I did. However, I have 5 Walgreens within 12 minutes from me.Not that I owe anyone an explanation, but I am a very courteous shopper. It’s not me you have to worry about. I would be worried about those people who clear shelves, not people who help many families survive.

Mags November 22, 2011 at 1:32 pm

Dianne November 22, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Amy, I do the same thing at my one store in my town, I have to there are no other stores to go to, but I go to the cosmetics counter and let people in between me if anyone comes behind me with a few items and yes I donate 95-100% of what I purchase too. Just be curteous and the cashiers don’t mind multiple transactions in my experience.Kudoos!

Dianne-

I am very forunate to have multiple stores within a short range of my house. I have a great relationship with the employees of all of the Walgreens. They know that I am there for unselfish reasons. I not only let customers go in front of me if I have a few transactions, but I often give out extra coupons that I won’t be using and tell them about deals so that they can get in on the couponing fun too.

Reply

Steve November 23, 2011 at 3:05 pm

I do the exact same thing! lol

Reply

Alicia November 22, 2011 at 4:27 pm

I have done up to 11 transactions at one store. They don’t care if I do and I always let people go ahead of me if they have one or two items. I do not clear the shelves and I do not find it a problem. I find it to be fun.

Reply

Pam November 22, 2011 at 3:01 pm

Thanks for posting Amy…it is always good to see other people’s plans for transactions! And, I agree with you and the others, as long as you are courteous, patient, and let others go in between your transactions, I don’t think the store minds at all. I sometimes will do a couple of transactions, go put the stuff out in the car and then either come back in or maybe go to the store that is a mile down the street.

Reply

Amy R. November 22, 2011 at 5:06 pm

Pam-

I agree with you totally!(see reply to Dianne’s comment above)

I have never done this many transactions, no matter how many stores are near me, before. But I have 4 households that have elderly people in them that can’t drive, so I am going to surprise them with items that I know they need or can use. 🙂

Reply

Susan November 22, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Amy ~ my only suggestion is that you may need to be a bit flexible. Some things may be out of stock. But in my experience, once you have done a few transactions, you can rework the transactions so that you still get great deals. I never plan things out this carefully and that way I am never disappointed. Good luck and have fun!

Reply

Amy R. November 23, 2011 at 10:47 am

Susan-

I was just thinking that. The Walgreens that are by my house are usually missing at least one item on my list every shopping trip. This list is more of a guideline. I plan to shop very early and I am going to one of the Walgreens soon to see if they have any of the products that will be one sale. Thanks for the advice!

Reply

Angie November 23, 2011 at 11:08 pm

My niece works at Walgreen and she said that her store will only be doing one transaction per person, because they expect a lot of people. Might want to check with your store on that…it might be just our store.

Reply

Dana G. November 24, 2011 at 12:31 am

Ok, that just could be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. What kind of a retail establishment turns away customers with money burning a hole in their pockets? If any store told me how I had to shop, I would never return there and I would make sure all my friends knew about it too!

Reply

Dana G. November 24, 2011 at 1:25 am

Maybe it’s a regional thing but my ad has no RR’s for wine. They’re all MIR. Am I missing something? Sometimes I can look at the ad too long and not see something right in front of my face!

Reply

Amy R. November 24, 2011 at 7:36 am

Dana-

It has to be a regional thing, because my ad in SW Florida has the RR for the wine. It’s $6.99 each with a $5RR.

I recently tried the sensitive skin one and yay it’s good to go! My mom will also be going so we shall see how it all turns out 🙂 hope I beat the shelf clearers and those doing 20 transactions 😉 lol

It’s not a pdf but the website will let you print off lots of them. You have to give your info each time but when I printed some the other day I just kept putting in my same info and getting coupons.

Here’s a trick. If you printed one of these it won’t show for you even though you can print it again. I had the same problem. I changed browsers and like magic… there it was!

AmyR you just Rock! I am new at this and thought I would start tomorrow since I am heading home for Thanksgiving and will pass many Walgreens. So, my question so I will have everything together. When you say transaction #1 that gives RR… then do you turn around and use those RR on the next transaction? Any help would be appreciated. I would like to hand over items to our food bank and other organizations in need. thanks

Reply

Amy R. November 23, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Sara Lyn-

Yes, that is the idea, if it can be done. Rolling RR help minimize your out of pocket cost and maximizes, on most ocassions, the amount of items you can buy. Not all RR can be rolled to the next scenario. If you would like, I have just updated my shopping list and I have increased the amount of RR I will get back as well as items that I will get for almost no additional cost, leave your email and I will send you my scenarios.

I’m still working on my transactions but the store manager already told me I’m limited to 3 transactions Thursday and Friday. There is another Wags about 3 miles away so I may have to hit that one too. Not happy about it but they’ve been having problems with shelf clearers.

Reply

Christie November 22, 2011 at 6:59 pm

I wish they would limit you to 1 of each deal instead of to 3 transactions.

Like in my scenario you only get 1 of each deal, so it seems silly to me to say how you have to break it up. Since, that doesn’t really help with shelf clearing.

Why would someone going and buying everything 3 times be ok but you buying everything spread over 4 transactions be an issue, ya know?!

Gabriella Gai November 23, 2011 at 6:47 am

The mgr. is really nice about things. He said 3 Thursday and 3 Friday and Saturday whatever I want. Unfortunately, the beauty cashier I am friends with is off Thursday. My first two transactions are identical and my third is similar. I tried to catch up with the mgr last week so I could order what I wanted but he was off. Hopefully, all will go as planned.

This is probably a stupid question, but is there anyway I can just do one transaction? I know I can use the RR for stuff I would normally purchase for my house, but I’m concerned about the multiple P&G and same brand RR not printing because of the same company issue.

Reply

Christie November 22, 2011 at 6:54 pm

Of course you can! It’s just that if you buy everything in one transaction you’ll be spending a lot out of pocket up front unless you have a bunch of RR to use already. You can always merge two or more of the transactions.

As long as it’s not the same $ amount the same manufacturer makes no difference. Here’s why…. every coupon has a code and a RR is just a coupon. If the coupon is for the same family of products AND the same dollar amount the register will think you used a RR from buying that same product to pay. But if it’s a $2 P&G and you are buying something that gives a $3 P&G for example. It won’t matter. A $2 RR is NOT going to be coded the same as a $3 RR even if they were both for Pantene!

So just keep that in mind and you won’t have to be concerned. 🙂

Can this reply be framed and mounted somewhere for everyone to read? Lol, I’ve been searching for clarification to this answer since the shopping scenarios came out. I made up my own shopping scenario which was shot down by other couponers who say that I was paying for Pfizer products with Pfizer RRs. I was really down because that meant that I would have to completely redo my scenario, but as long as what you are saying is true, Christie, I should be ok.

Reply

Christie November 23, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Yep! It’s true – it makes me a little crazy when people are just told “you can’t use a RR from one Manf. to get a RR from the same manuf.” and not told the WHOLE story. Because people get frustrated creating extra scenarios and extra work for themselves. And it shouldn’t be that hard.

And if you think about it – it makes sense. The whole problem is that the store is trying to not let you “roll” a RR into more of the same product. But if they are different $ amounts, the coding is different, it can not be the same. The code tells the register the dollar amount. So if it’s a different code (different $ amount) the register just knows you are not trying to “roll” and you are good!

It’s the same reason why occasionally a coupon is coded exactly like a RR. So if it’s a $1/1 coupon and a $1/1 Register Reward once in very long while we’ll have an issue because they were coded exactly the same. 🙂 That was a very long explanation but hopefully it helps someone! 😉

I’m wondering about the gift bag w/window you have listed in your scenerio. It’s not in my ad and I asked the mgr. at my store and he has no idea what it is. Could this be the one regional item in the whole ad? Lucky me!

I believe their is a new AARP promotion that just went live. For those of us who are not too embarrassed to show their AARP card, you just need to spend $20 and you will get a $5 RR. Did anyone else see the same thing?

Amy R, Could you tell me how you worked up your scenarios? I’m planning a big trip to Wags on Thanksgiving but I’m not nearly ready with my transaction list. I’m a little confused as to where to start. Maybe you or Christie could give me some pointers?

Carolyn-

If you give me your email, I can send you an updated version of my shopping scenarios. I cut my transaction from 8 to just 6. Also, I am getting more RR back as well along with more product for about the same price.

Hi Am-
Was wondering if you might mail me the new scenarios as well. I have the first one already and if anyone maight have the culturelle Q, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and happy shopping everyone.
BTW…just got back from the 24 hour Walgreen’s and the only snag that I found was with the Scunci Hair bands. They are ringing up wrong. Scanning B1G1 50% off. So keep an eye out.

did anyone notice that the secret bodyspray will be free after rr?
its 2/$7.50 use 2 $1 secret clinical deodorant OR body spray 10/30pg makes it $5.50 with $5.50rr

Reply

dee dee November 22, 2011 at 9:10 pm

I noticed this body spray deal too. I wonder why sites aren’t listing it? I looked closely at the bottle on the coupon and it is a “mist” not “spray” but also not “splash”. When you go to their web site they only have “mist” and “splash” so I think it could easily be argued that both are indeed a body “spray” which is what the coupon refers to. In my opinion the coupon is valid.

Reply

Lindsay S. November 22, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Yes I noticed that too! I’ll definitely be doing that one twice since I have 4 coupons! Yay!

Reply

margaret November 23, 2011 at 3:31 am

ok, cuz I saw the stuff when I went in sunday, yes I did my shopping and a walkthru with my list. Only couldnt find 1 thing (4ct advil) but my favorite cashier is going to look for it for me.
Anyways, the picture on the coupon looks just like the 2 bottles (purple and yellow) that were in my store and they were STOCKED on everything thats going to be on RR so I am pretty sure that coupon can be used.
If you do get some, make sure you do not get the 2 gillette in the same transaction as its the same deal and only 1 rr will print. and then of course you dont use the rr you got from the gillette to buy the secret and vice versa

The Walgreens in my town and in the major city closest to me, Chattanooga TN won’t let me reuse coupons from the Infant Care Booklet and Making the Holiday’s Stunning booklet. They said they received an email from corp. stating that they have to take the coupon and can’t be used more than once. That really stinks! I loved that I use to be able to reuse the coupon and help buy diaper, wipes, Advil, etc for my grandchildren. And since I have more than one grandchild it would be nice to be able to still use the coupon more than once so I could by for each one of them.

Just wondering if Walgreeens in other towns of states are doing the same thing or if it’s just in my area?????

Reply

Christie November 23, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Just your area. They don’t have to take them, they are just going to throw them away.

Reply

Diana November 23, 2011 at 8:39 pm

One cashier let me keep the Advil coupon and then the next one(same store) took it. I think it depends on the cashier.

Can I use my left over Register Rewards for the toys that are on sale. I came up with a couple of scenarios to try as I have never done it before and just learning the drugstore trade. If I did it right I will end up having 7.50 in RR’s left over and wanted to get a couple toys they have on sale if they will let me use the RR’s towards those.

Got back from wags and it went well. They told me I had to wait till 2am but it always prints before that and sure enough, it did. They let me get what I wanted since it was only 1-2 of each item and I had another person with me. I made 2 mistakes but all went well. The manager said they are limiting everything to one per person but I have 4 wags in town to finish the rest of my list! Also the ponds 2RR is printIng wyb 2.

Was at my 24-hour Wags at 4am this morning. They were well-stocked and had plenty to go around with the exception of the Gillette. They had some…but only about 6 left. FYI: the Revlon coupon beeps. I used it on the lip gloss and it beeped and he keyed it in. Then when he saw that I was getting more of them, he went over and got the lipstick to try – still beeped. He hand-keyed it in…but wasn’t happy about it. Also, I wasn’t getting the Cover Girl stuff, but he said that the RRs for that are not printing.

Went right after midnight and everything went well for me except the Scunci’s. Did anyone else have this trouble? It rang up at Buy 1 ($2.99) get one 50% off ($1.49). The $3RR did print though. All the other deals and prices went beautifully.

I only had a problem with the Prep H coupons beeping. The cashier and manager both refused to take it because the item wasn’t pictured on the coupon. At 2am I wasn’t going to push it, so hopefully I find more later today…

Katie: I didn’t have a problem with mine, first rang $2.99 second $0.01. However the 28ct or something larger was on the wrong peg when I picked them up, so I had to go back and get the 18ct.

Went at around 8. The shelves were very well stocked and I totally loved the cashier she kept trying to find other coupons that worked for the things I had. It was pretty empty, but I did just one transaction at a time, and regrouped with my coupons in-between. Ended up spending 13$ OOP and some RR from last time and ended up with 27$ in RR. I also had that problem with the scuncii ringing up wrong, but the manager gave me the $ back on my card. So all in all a very good trip

Reply

andrea November 24, 2011 at 12:39 pm

I customized what I needed and only did two transactions. I got there at about 10am and everything was very well stocked, they had most of the RR deals on either tables or end caps, which they usually do so it made it SO easy to find everything I needed. I had no issues with any of the coupons going through (even prep H…), and I got all register rewards (even Cover Girl, it prints out as “compliments of P&G). I paid $12.45 out of pocket for about $60 in merchandise and left with $14 in register rewards. Success!
