Updates From the Field 6/26

by Christie Bisbee on June 26, 2011

After a very wet afternoon driving around in bad weather, here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go a bit smoother. Happy to be home and dry! 🙂

CAREFREE DEAL
There are quite a few different types of Carefree that were included in the $1.99 price and worked with the $3/2 Walgreens Coupon in the July book. My store had signs on all the participating products which made it easier.  The Carefree coupons was regional however I did see them both on eBay or at My Coupon Hunter.

BUY
(2) Carefree Thong 49ct, Original Regular 54ct, Thin 60ct or Body Shape Regular 54ct $1.99
(2) -.50/1 Carefree Product, Any – 03-27-11 RP or 06-26-11 SS x8/30
(1) -$3/2 Carefree Pantiliners 16-60pk (5532) July Monthly Book
= FREE!

DOVE MEN+CARE BAR SOAP DEAL
I’m happy to report the Dove Men+Care bar is working for the Register Reward Deal! Yeah! So you can get (3) packs of these for FREE!

BUY
(3) Dove Men+ Care 6pk Bar Soap 3/$18
(3) -$4/1 Dove Men+Care body and face bar 6 pack+ 06-26-11 RP x7/24 (if included)
= $6, Get Back $6 RR
= FREE!

KRAFT REGISTER REWARD DEAL
Walgreens is having an issue with the Kraft Register Reward printing. Many of us got an ad for that in our SmartSource insert. It looks like it was not programed in their systems.  Perhaps someone over there needs a calendar to let them know whe 6/26 is. So although I really, really wanted S’mores, it’s not going to happen tonight. So, get your coupons together and I’ll let you know when this one is printing properly. I even left the manager my personal cell phone, to let me know when it’s working. (Can you tell how badly I want those S’mores?) If you bought it and it didn’t print for you, you can always return it (which is what I did) or call Catalina 1-888-8COUPON.

NEW WORDING ON SOME REGISTER REWARDS
I also noticed some new wording on several Register Rewards – “Redeemable ONLY at Walgreens”. I remember seeing this on the SOBE deal a few weeks ago and I was hoping it was a fluke. I don’t use my Register Rewards at other stores but I know some of you do and can.

Find Any Other Great Deals? Let us know. 🙂

today, i tried to get the buy one get one free toothpastes – my local walgreens told me it was buy a toothpaste get a tooth brush free – ad was not worded that way…i wasnt too happy

It seems some things are ringing up at the after in ad coupon price WITHOUT using the in ad coupon. I bought Scotch packaging tape and the envelope and they rung up at sale prices without entering the in ad coupon. The Hefty one zip bags have an in ad BOGO coupon but they DID NOT ring up as BOGO with or without the coupon. They had to manually adjust the prices. It was also weird that I had 12 items, 3 $1/2, 3 x $1/1 coupons and tried to use 3 RRs but it would only let me use 2 even though I had an amount before tax that was more than the 3rd RR I was trying to use.

One of the things I bought was the Mead envelopes that have an in Ad Coupon and when I handed the cashier the Wags coupon he said that he didn’t need it because they are ringing up for the sale price. I should have asked him if that will be the case for all Wags in Ad Coupons now!

Reply

Kelly June 26, 2011 at 8:10 pm

Same thing happened to me, the Ad Coupons for the Scotch Tape and the Crayola Posterboard beeped because the items already rang up with the sale price, which I didn’t notice at first. The cashiers were confused also.

it happened to me when I was working yesterday at WAGS. We didn’t need to scan some of the coupons and some we did. Kind of confusing! But by the end of my shift, things were somewhat back to normal and we had to scan the coupons again. For a while (during the switchover) the prices were ringing regular price but then the coupons wouldn’t work. Hopefully that got fixed because we had to void things out and price modify them since the coupons wouldn’t scan. What a night!!

Lisa June 26, 2011 at 7:57 pm

I also had RR problems. I had plenty of items, but the cashier said if the cOupon attached to more than one item, you can’t use a RR too, which would be a big change.

Does walgreens do rain checks? My store was all out of the dove men+care 6 pk. I was wondering how a rain check would work with register reward? Thanks 🙂

Reply

Amanda June 26, 2011 at 10:21 pm

You can get a rain check, but the RR will NOT print! 🙁

Reply

Bethany June 27, 2011 at 9:36 am

Some Wags I’ve been in will give you a raincheck for the price of the item AFTER the RR. I realize that then you don’t have the RR to apply to another purchase, but it’s essentially the same.

i noticed on my receipt that now there is a 2 on the same line as the wags q for the carefree
also on the dove coupons there is a 1 (its the $4/1)
I used i got 2 carefree and 3 dove (plus I got a candy bar) and I used 4 manq and 1 wags q..total of 6 items. I had 6 items so I wonder if the wagqs are now counting towards the coupon totals? I didn’t have any rrs to use so I dont know if it would have taken it.

So if these july book coupons are attaching to the products now, we cant use the manq’s too?

Reply

Wag employee June 26, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Sometimes when a great item is on sale with a coupon, we will put in on sale for the coupon price so we dont have to waste time scanning the coupon, doing refunds because we forgot to use the coupon, etc. We often do that to water cases, arizona cans, & candy.

Reply

margaret June 26, 2011 at 8:15 pm

ok i just checked my receipt again
the wags carefree coupon is ringing up as a manufacturers coupon and not as a wags coupon.

Reply

Patricia June 26, 2011 at 8:19 pm

I’ve noticed a lot of stores are tweaking their coupon policy. Publix doesn’t allow any coupons from Walgreens and Walmart doesn’t allow coupons that are just a certain dollar amount off your purchase. Even if the RRs didn’t say redeemable only at Walgreens, some stores wouldn’t accept them.

Also, I’m not sure what’s going on with the receipt, I didn’t work today but if someone scanned it, I could maybe provide insight into the number thing.

Anyone have trouble with the $1 packing tape coupons? It states in the ad limit 4. Tried to buy 4 & It would only take 2 of my coupons. Tried a 2nd transaction buying 2 & it would only take 1 coupon. Tried a 3rd transaction buying only 1 with 1 coupon & it wouldn’t take it at all.

Reply

Merideth June 26, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Those printable scotch coupons are coded to attach to 2 items even though they are a $1/1 coupon. Not sure what should be done about it though. I have had cashiers push them through before.

Reply

grace June 26, 2011 at 10:15 pm

there were two different sets of those coupons, the original link did attach to two even though it was for one, the second link that she gave was the okay link. It all depends when you printed them

Reply

Tina June 27, 2011 at 12:14 am

Oh wow. That sounded exactly like my transaction. My first transaction I tried to buy 4 of the packaging tape along with ice cream and some other items. Only 2 of the 4 coupons would scan. I also noticed that some items already scanned with the coupon (in ad) and I didn’t even need to show them. There were a few things funny about this transaction: #1- packaging tape ordeal – only 2 scanned, #2- i had enough items to use additional RRs, but it just wouldn’t let me. #3 the morton’s salt wasn’t scanning taking off to .50 cents each even after the cashier scanned the coupon and even she was very confused about this.

Then since I couldn’t used the 4 packaging tape together, i decided to scan the remaining 2 since limit was 4 on 2nd transaction. On transaction #2, only 1 coupon worked. So the cashier said is there a limit? I said it was 4 according to the ad and she was just as confused as I was. Then we tried it on the 3rd, and just like you, it , too did not scan.

Is there something I am missing here?

Raquel June 26, 2011 at 8:29 pm

There is also carefree to go 20-24 pcs priced at $1.59,so if you don’t have coupon it will also work on this paying .18cents.
The first time I bought 2 carefree, the cashier can’t enter my .50cents coupon and when it does, the IVC only took off $1.50 so I talked to the manager and I got this for free.the second time, the cashier doesn’t know how to do it,she called the manager twice, and then I think the manager is irritated,he told me,he will limit my purchase but still allow me^ to get the 2 more packs for free.I still have 5 coupons to use, maybe I’ll try next time.

Reply

Melanie June 26, 2011 at 8:31 pm

I wasn’t able to use the BOGO free Dove body wash, and get the $5 RR back! It worked when the manager did it with not coupons, but now when I used the 2 coupons…..The manager said sometimes the RR wont print when coupons are used to buy the items…??? I though that was only regarding RR being used as the coupons, such a frustrating Walgreens day today! It wouldn’t take all 3 of my coupons for the Dove Bar soap for men either, just ended up bagging that deal altogether!

Guest June 26, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Everything was out of whack today! Coupons were ringing up sale prices, megasavers weren’t ringing up at all, coupon book coupons weren’t scanning! I’m sure all will be fixed tomorrow 🙂

Reply

Christie June 26, 2011 at 8:59 pm

Mine did too but that didn’t prevent me from being able to use both the MQ first and then the $3/2.

Even last month many of the booklet Qs were ringing up saying “MQ” way but still working as they should. Odd…

Reply

Reena June 26, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I did fine too! Mine looked like this:
1 reach advanced 2 pack @ 2.99
1 Tylenol precise cream @ 7.99
Total: $10.98 plus tx-
Used $3 wags q Tylenol precise
$5 mq Tylenol
$2 reach mq

.96 cents plus tax! No problems at the register 🙂

I had a little problem today as well with the hawaiin tropic not ringing up bogo free. 2 associates and several minutes later, the manager came over and told them to just do a price adjustment on it. The cashier mentioned something about their registers being upgraded or changed last night so everything has been out of whack.

Reply

Christie June 26, 2011 at 10:02 pm

Yes, I think their Registers were being particularly nuts today!

Reply

Rachel B. June 27, 2011 at 12:08 am

Yes, my Hawaiian tropics also didn’t ring up right. One was saying, “coupon not found” just when the product was scanned, before any coupons. Also it wasn’t ringing up BOGO. The manager price adjusted each to $5.50, which was half the price and then it all worked out using my coupons.

Reply

Amy June 27, 2011 at 3:19 pm

The same thing happened last time they had this BOGO sale… why can’t they get it right in their system LOL

Reply

Lori June 26, 2011 at 9:56 pm

My transaction today looked like this:

Ecotrin (Raincheck) $0.99 -$1.50 Q (adjusted down to 0.99)
2 Carefree 54 ct. @ $1.99 – (2) $0.50 Qs -$3/2 W IVC
2 Wags 100 ct. Vitamins $6.99 B1G1 (DH needed)
Reach 2 pk $2.99-$2 Q
-$1 RR
-$3 RR
=$3.96

Every item on my receipt had a number (either 1, 1A, or 2A) by it and every coupon, including the W IVC for the Carefree says MFGC next to it, but they still all (7 total for 6 items) came off without a problem! 🙂 HTH

Found out why the register rewards aren’t printing, not all of the items in the picture are “Kraft” my store did a bunch if scenarios and remixes that Oscar Meyer is ok, nabisco is ok, not hershey ect.. I was told by the manager that I shouldn’t rely on these blogs and that they no longer will do more then one transaction because people like me ruin it for others. This is the 1st time I ever did more then one, and it was because the 4th was coming up and we were having a lot of people over. I told the mgr that I don’t do that extreme purchasing because I know how it feels to go and buy something and its gone. I ask for an apology and he said I owed him one for taking up his time. 🙁 heceas mean 🙁

Reply

ali June 26, 2011 at 10:56 pm

WOW! I’ve worked in retail management for 12 years and I would never, EVER ask a customer to give me an apology for taking up my time. I would lose my job for that kind of attitude! Even if you are not an assertive person by nature, you really need to take action and let his district manager know what he said because that kind of behavior should not be tolerated. People should not be able to get away with being so disrespectful!

Reply

Reena June 26, 2011 at 11:03 pm

Wow I would talk to the regional manager or get in contact with someone. The managers at both the Walgreens I shop at are always more than happy to help and don’t mind at all when i need to do two transactions. I even go to the end of the line just to make things easier.

Still, call someone. Terrible that a manager would even say that

Reply

Christie June 26, 2011 at 11:30 pm

Call Corporate – I’m sorry but what a jerk!

It’s not “blogs” that weren’t correct it was their system and their ad!!!!

And just Nabisco wasn’t working at my store 🙁 My manager tried it even ringing up $18 worth. We also tried $15 worth of Hershey’s and $15 worth of Marshmallows.

Reply

Dee June 27, 2011 at 12:16 am

I would just like my RR and write a letter who could I contact? Life is to short for me to get too wound up, but I would like to find out if I can only do 1 transaction per day if it involves RR . I believe the customer has the right to know, before the go shopping. I spend quite a bit in prescriptions for my family, are the willing to lose that $150 a month (my copay) along with the insurance $ because of this rule or mgr.

Reply

Dee June 26, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Oops forgot to tell you I got a $1 RR for Hershey’s ?? Crazy!

Nope didnt buy twizzlers in that transaction. Just the s’more stuff and renuzits.

Brianna S June 26, 2011 at 11:23 pm

Had a good experience with my first transaction at walgreens. Got two Precise with a pack of the Reach by design toothbrushes for 1.19 with tax.

Also I found a blinkie by the carefree with .50/1 Carefree acti-fresh that doesn’t expire until 8/30. That should be worth checking out if you didn’t get the new carefree coupon.

I had many many troubles with my coupon count vs. item count while shopping today. I CLEARLY had more items than the number of RRs I was trying to redeem but the register wouldn’t accept them. I ended up having to buy even more extra items. I don’t know what changed but I’m not too confident in shopping there until this issue gets sorted out!

Reply

andrea jones June 27, 2011 at 4:58 pm

One thing that I was informed about not long ago was that if you have a coupon for say $1/3 items, it counts as 1 coupon and 1 item (not 3 items.)

So say you bought 6 jars of peanut butter and you had 2 coupons for $1/3 plus you were going to use 2 register rewards. The Walgreens system considers this 4 coupons (2 paper coupons and 2 RR) and only 2 items. So since you have to have equal coupons to items, you would need 2 fillers for this transaction.

Reply

Tina June 27, 2011 at 12:16 am

Also, can someone let me know if I need to ask for a price mod (actually no store around me seems to know or want or do this) since $1.99 + $1.99 = $3.98 for the carefree products. If i take off $3/2 from the WAGS Q, then it’d be .98 cents. Then I have 2 .50 cents which equals to $1 so that means -.02. Can someone confirm before I try this deal out? thanks.

Reply

Melissa June 27, 2011 at 12:36 am

you’ll need something to absorb the overage. the register wont take your second 50 cent off coupon.

Reply

Christie June 27, 2011 at 1:13 am

Yes buy some other little thing and give the MQ FIRST for it to work. Or if your store actually followed policy they’d just adjust the coupon, but sadly none in my area do.

Reply

Dana June 27, 2011 at 4:39 am

Chrisite,
Do the Wags July Q booklets coupon for the Carefree count toward your coupon count? Tried buying like 8 pantiliners & none of my 50c coupons were working. Was wondering if that would be a case. But I thought only the man. Q’s and RR’s counted…?

Reply

Crystal June 27, 2011 at 11:59 am

First store I went to the Carefree deal was trouble free. I bought 4 Carefree and a Domino sugar. I used 4 $0.50 manufacture coupons and the IVC booklet. The second store a mile down the road I had problems. Same transaction but the register said no item found when I handed over my $0.50 cpns. Weird.

Reply

CJ June 29, 2011 at 6:19 pm

My manager wouldnt allow me to use 2 .50 coupons on the Carefree because she said the July $3/2 IVC coupon counted as 2 coupons. This is the first time I’ve had any problems stacking coupons with IV coupons 🙁

Reply

Tina June 27, 2011 at 6:46 am

Thanks for the suggestion. Will definitely try this out later this week. I just hope that they don’t eagerly scan the store Q first as they have done in the past..

Christie, I saw the new wording as well. Also, at my store today, some things were just scanning as the sale price without the in-ad Q which would change scenarios here on out if this is something that they plan on doing in the future.

(3) -$4/1 Dove Men+Care body and face bar 6 pack+ 06-26-11 RP x7/24 (if included)

2 $1/dove body wash
2 $3.75 off dove men wyb dove BW
2 B1G1 free dove men

Both the $6 and $5 RR printed and I paid $14 plus tax oop, so it was like getting all that for 3 bucks!

I have a question. Can you take your $6 register reward from the 3- Dove men+ 6pk bar soap, and use that $6 RR for the other Dove deal with the deodorant/body scrubbers?

I did not know if Unilever was like proctor and Gamble where you can not use another Unilever coupon on another Unilever RR deal.

I got the dove chocolate bars today though, if the soap thing doesn’t work out at least I can use that and the reach toothbrushes to swap out my expiring RR’s

I went to walgreens and it seems like the walgreen coupons from the book are now coming up as manufactor coupons…. so I used the 3/2 for carefree and tried to use 2 .50 off coupons and it wouldn’t let me! why are the store coupons coming up as manufactor coupons?

Reply

Shirl June 29, 2011 at 12:48 am

I would like to know also why the walgreens coupons are scanning as MQ. They clearly are not since the UPC coding is not correct. Just another set back since the TLC extreme couponing show aired. It looks as though Walgreens is putting tighter restrictions on their coupon policy. I was always able to use a Walgreens coupon ( From monthly book) and a MQ for 1 item.

Reply

Christie June 29, 2011 at 12:54 am

They have been coming up as MQ on my receipts for a while now but still working like Wags Qs for me.

Hi
I went into my local Walgreen’s and tried purchasing the Carefree deal. I placed 3 carefree in my cart (the limit per the in ad coupon); upon checkout, I handed the cashier 3 of the MQ and the $3/2 from the July book. After attempting to scan the July book coupon many times and hearing the beeps, the cashier called in the Manager. She attempted to no avail. Then she finally stated that the Walgreen’s book coupon is a MQ and could not use 4 MQ for 3 items! I was puzzled and so I said MQ? She said…the fine print states that is a MQ! Besides, she said, the pantiliners you are purchasing are not the ULTRA as in picture. I did not realize you had to buy the ULTRA kind to make the deal work either.

I am getting very disappointed with Walgreen’s lately; not worth the time and effort

Reply

Christie July 18, 2011 at 11:01 am

The liners that are $.99 the week of 7/17 are not the ones included in the coupon from the July book. That’s why they beeped.
