I'm Carrying this 5/2 Ad Around Forever

by Christie Bisbee on April 30, 2010

Sometimes I see something in a Walgreens ad that makes me want to laminate it and carry it around in my coupon binder for all eternity. This upcoming ad has 3 of those types of items in it and I want to point them out to you.

Example #1 – At one point or another I think we will all hear “If you use a coupon on a Register Reward deal your Register Reward won’t print”. Take a look at this first picture from the ad starting this Sunday 5/2. Notice anything? It’s a deal promoting both a Register Reward and coupons in the Sunday paper. So if Register Rewards don’t print when you use a coupon, why would Walgreens be encouraging us to use coupons for this deal?

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Example #2 – I love this one! Here at the top of the page Walgreens is flat out asking us to use our P&G coupons with these offers, with a Register Reward deal right in the center!

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Example #3 – This is my absolute favorite. Many of you have recently been told that you can no longer use a Walgreens Monthly IVC Coupon with a Manufactures coupon. If that is the case why is Walgreens encouraging us buy this One Touch UltraSmart or Ultra 2 Monitor with both a “$35 instant coupon in store”, which is from the the May Monthly IVC coupon booklet AND the coupon coming in our Sunday paper? Are they teasing us with a coupon we aren’t allowed to use?

So, until Walgreens puts out an official coupon policy for all it’s stores, I’ll carry this ad in my coupon binder. And in-spite of everything, I still remain Wild for Wags! 😉

My walgreens ladies know that it’s a game to be played with the cashregister, and they LOVE IT! They’re more than happy to help me out to play the game and I have never had a probem using a coupon, getting a RR or getting a deal. In fact, our store gives a military discount on Tuesdays BEFORE coupons or RRs are counted and most of the time the cashiers will ask before ringing you up which is great b/c I would otherwise forget to show my id.!!!!

If I had a RR for every time I was given a reason that you can’t use coupons to produce a RR I would be able to get a few things!!! I’m going to keep this ad with me. Thanks for the tip!

I LOVE THIS! I’ve been told many reasons… one of my favorites is that I used too many coupons. Like, really??

I take it back. On the recent Scotch packaging tape deal, I tried to use the $1/1 manufacturer coupon with the $0.99 Walgreens in-store coupon ad, essentially a $.01 penny overage. The cashier refused to let me have it for free and told me: “You can’t make money with coupons!”

Oh, really?!!

I didn’t get my Scotch tape but I walked out thinking, “If only she knew how much money I’ve “made” through Money Makers.” Thanks mostly to WildforWags!

Jeni…your WAGS clerk was so wrong!! But what you needed to do to avoid her glare and comment was to grab a filler item like a $.39 Nestle candy bar, so that it took the overage off the candy bar so it went unnoticed.

LOVE this post — I think you SHOULD keep those 3 examples to show particularly obnoxious clerks.

I sometimes have to clinch my hands to stop from telling a clerk: “Just TRY IT — if the register doesn’t beep, we’re good.”

I had a similar problem at Walgreens a few days — my first issue at Walgreens, in fact. I was buying the $.99 rolls of Scotch tape and using my $1 coupons to get it free. Their coupon said limit 6. I had 2 separate transactions in my cart, to get 6 rolls for myself and 4 for my mother. I let another woman near me go before me, and was chatting happily with her…but when I got to the register, the clerk barked at me “it’s a limit of 6”. I told her I realized that and she rudely gestured toward the others in the cart. I told her it was a sep. transaction for my mother, who lives 40 miles away and found her store was out. She said “you can’t do that” and I told her “that’s a first — and the other store manager looked up which store had a supply and sent me here.” (I should say—they were NOT busy; noone was behind me waiting, or I never would have tried to do this.) She finally called the manager. When he came, I talked over her (rude, I realize) to get the story straight — he had no problem allowing me to do this. But she was BITTER the entire time of the transaction. 🙁 I was very nice…even thanked her “so much” for “helping me with this” and wished her a good day at the end of the transaction. She didn’t say anything in return. As I was leaving, I noticed the manager was watching her. I hope he said something to her about being rude to customers. I mean…it’s not like I was taking money out of HER pocket! They get reimbursed for my $1 coupon!

This post made me smile! And I totally agree with Melissa’s comment that the cashiers should “just try it.” There’s one cashier in particular at my Walgreens that I avoid b/c he tells what I can/cannot do without trying it first.

you know there are a lot of cashiers out there that hate coupon shoppers, they are friendly until you pull out all those coupons and then their mood changes, but i say they had better get used to us because there are more and more of us every day.and don’t let one bad incident discourage you, because there are some good cashiers out there that don’t mind at all. i have one at my walmart that is really nice, she say’s she just love’s to see people save money. i alway’s go to her if she’s working that day.i read all of your comment’s and thought i would add mine. because i had a run in with one cashier at walmart, like i said their mood changes when they see the coupons.

Jeni with the scotch tape deal make sure you hand over the $1/1 Coupon FIRST if they know you are using the in ad they will try to control the order that the coupons scan but the tapes ring up at $3.49 so use the $1/1 and its wont beep after all those go through THEN hand over in the ad coupon which makes them .99 each and the $1/1 was already applied so makes them free just make sure you have a filler to cover the .01 overage.
